Possible Infection/Abcess?

I shot one CC of test E (2/20) into my glute 3 days ago. No pain at all for about 18-24 hours, then after that, there was a red circle about an inch in diameter surrounding the pinhole. It was warm and very sore the whole time.

Tonight, (3 days later), the redness is gone, but it’s sometimes warm to the touch and still a bit swollen in the muscle and still sore. I have noticed while the redness and heat to the area has gotten down, the soreness has gotten slightly worse, and the area that’s sore has gotten a little larger. Also, the swollen lump is about an inch away from where the actual pinhole was.

Tonight, I used prisoners method of aspirating (pushing the needle in while the plunger is pulled back) with a 1.5 inch 22g needle (thickest gauge needle I’ve got on hand) and didn’t get anything drawn up into the barrel. I pulled the needle about halfway out and pushed it in at another angle (my hand moves a bit during glute shots, unfortunately) and aspirated again, this time just a couple drops of dark red blood. No puss or anything else.

I haven’t felt any fever or anything like that. (Although, today was almost 100 degrees, which sucks.)

Should I aspirate in the “lump” part of the muscle? I could do this, as the lump has moved up and out towards my hip, not my sciatic nerve.

Now, the thing that’s bothering me is the guy who made it told me he made it with .2 whatman filters that didn’t come in a sealed sterile container. He said he spoke to other educated people who had homebrewed before and said they’re fine to make gear with. FWIW, I trust the guys judgement.

Any advice is greatly appreciated.

If it was an abscess it would be more apparent after that amount of time. Serious pitting edema, moderate to severe soreness. If you dont have a fever, elevated heart rate, increased respiratory rate, or pitting edema, I suspect you’re fine.

doesnt sound like an infection,
4 signs of infection are: swelling, redness, heat and loss of function.
as you anly have pain and swelling and you saying that swelling isnt getting worse. + you dont have a pitting edema. you really dont need to worry.

is this your first hit in this muscle?

To me, personally, it sounds like whatever the problem is, your body is resolving it on its own. I don’t think you have anything to worry about but you should most definitely be on high alert for signs of things turning for the worse (fever, localized symptoms, etc.)

Also, think very clearly on how good your injection method was. Is there a chance that you contaminated the needle somehow during your injection? If not, then you can be pretty sure you should avoid using your gear again…

It sounds fine to me.

If you had found puss, then you should continue to aspirate the fucker, and perhaps add antibiotics (although this is really just icing on the cake).

Without seeing a pic (no homo) I cannot say for sure, but it sound like a shallow injection. Even if you are technically in the muscle, if it is particularly shallow it’s very easy to develop a lump. Often in this case some of the bolus will find its way into the subcutaneous region and can cause redness and pain.

In regards to the position of the lump, I would guess (just a guess) that you perhaps injected at a slight angle, given the awkwardness for some with glute injections, which explains the position of the lump vs injection site.

As for the filters, unless the guy has rolled them in shit first then I’d say they’re fine to use. They would need a fairly decent source of infective material on the “out” side of the filter to be a problem.

I’ve come to the conclusion after a few scares myself that you need to be a seriously filthy mofo to get a bona fide infection from injecting AAS.

Thanks guys!

Kapulsky, I don’t know what you mean by first hit, but if you mean first shot to my glute, no, it’s not my first.

This morning it’s still very sore… but I did go in there with a large needle and poke around last night, so I’m guessing that’s normal. haha

It’s also still warm.

Any guesses on when this should start going away? Just so I have a timeframe of “if it’s still sore after X days, you might want to start to worry…” hah

Again, thanks a ton!

When to worry:

Systemic effects; fever, feeling like shit, etc.
Red striae spreading from site - looks like little tentacles spreading from the area
Significant increases in inflammation (any of the 5 signs)

It may easily take 10 days for this to clear up. As long as it’s not getting worse I wouldn’t worry, personally.

Well I just got some bad gear as not only the area is sore for days, but I felt progressively sick and at night had full blown fever with profuse sweating and all. The “sickness” goes away in “only” a day (that’s why I didn’t make the connection before, but now it’s very obvious!), while the painful lumps stays on for 4-5.

It sure ain’t high BA that’s causing this. As the fever goes away, I don’t fear an infection needing medical attention, but I wonder what “got into me”… Not fun.

Thanks guys…

It’s still sore and swollen, but I’m thinking I hit a lymph node, as this is basically exactly what happened the last time I had pain like this. (Which was my VERY first shot ever, actually. fuck me, right? hah)

LOL, sorry for the pic…

But… these red marks appeared today after training. The yellow tinge I assumed was a slight bruise from going in there the other night and poking around with a needle, as the first time I noticed it was the morning after I did that.

Anyway, those red marks are making me think it might be something to start worrying about…?

I’m going to bed now… I’ll see how it looks in the morning.
