Honestly why does this question even matter? If Dems learned anything from the election of Trump it should be that paying for plans is not something the voters care about. Trump promised to solve the deficit, expand and give cheaper healthcare to everyone, and not touch social security or Medicare. If asked how to pay he probably said something like I’m a deal maker. Well after he said it doesn’t matter if we default.
While us political junkies in here might ask that it’s clearly not something that is going to keep anyone from being elected.

This sounds like hyperbole. We can’t even pass gun legislation supported by something like 90% of Americans and you think gun grabbing happens?

You think universal background checks is the same as taking guns? Making you have a license plate to legally drive is a far throw from taking cars away.

The point is if something with that level of overwhelming support doesn’t make anything happen how would we assume something far less popular (gun grabbing) has a chance?
0% chance weapons get taken away from law abiding owners in your lifetime on some type of mass scale.

I agree. I imagine laws would be passed making more non-law abiders first.
*(Edit) If anything, let states issue “Approved Firearms Buyer”(or similar) licenses to people. That would accomplish the (supposedly) desired thing(prohibiting certain people from acquiring) without creating a registry.

The point of the example was that to legally own a car one has a few things they must do. And if you don’t do these things you’re denied ownership.
But I don’t want to get hung up on that example. Background checks and taking weapons are far from the same thing.

No. If a law prohibiting possession of firearms were passed, those who possess firearms would…wait for it…not be law abiding gun owners.

You were talking about being permitted to drive(or store) it on government roads. You don’t have to register a car to own it.

Pat said lefties are coming for your guns and you said it’s coming. Let it come soon. I simply said that’s hyperbole. It’s not coming. 0 threat of gun grabbing being something that happens on the horizon and universal background checks aren’t remotely close to the same thing.
I thought what I was saying was obvious. My assumption is the vast majority of people who purchase vehicles plan to drive it. Having rules to use a certain piece of property are hardly new. And yes I’m equating use and own in the same way here.
But think how overwhelmingly in favor Americans are of this and for how long now. And nothing has happened. Gun grabbing ain’t happening. Pretending that the jack booted thugs are kicking in the door and taking guns of all is nonsense.
