I don’t think kids are beating each other to death at school.
Yes, that is what they are saying. He shouldn’t be expelled because he had a good reason to bring a gun to school. My point is, if that’s the case, then why shouldn’t all kids be allowed to bring guns to school? And, why can’t everyone, not just students, be allowed to carry a gun? These teachers are not exactly against gun control yet have just agreed with those who are. And this gets to my point, what use is gun control if the underlying reasons why people want guns, both good guys and bad guys, are not addressed. It’s great that that crazy dude can’t shoot anyone and instead has to rely on a baseball bat. Much lower death count. But it would be better if he wasn’t crazy in the first place, which is why those of us who aren’t want to be able to have guns. It’s not fun getting shot or hit with a bat.
As far as I know, nobody is even saying that HE should have been allowed to bring a gun to school. 30 years in lieu of death for a killing is not the same as a justifiable homicide. It seems they are saying there were mitigating circumstances.
I know. But they imply it if they say he was justified. He was justified in breaking the law which means that the law is wrong. Which means, we should be allowed to own guns.
I’m not familiar with the incident. You gave a brief outline of it. I have no idea whether they are saying he was justified or not. From what I gather, they are merely saying he doesn’t deserve expulsion.
As many as there are school shootings? If the relatively few cases of kids getting beaten to death at school warrant kids arming themselves, then the much larger number of cases of school shootings should warrant banning guns.
They are saying he shouldn’t be expelled because he was justified. I can’t post it here because it is not from a public forum. However, any teachers who disagree have their posts deleted. It’s basically enablers vs those who hold all kids to a high standard.
Without getting into school-specific policy, this statement reflects a poor understanding of lethal force law. Generally speaking, lethal force is justified in defense of self or others if a threat of great death or bodily harm is present.
You write off fist fights as if they play out like they do in the movies. They can, but they also can not. I’ve had my head kicked in on a basketball court before in a “fist fight”. It stopped because my attacker decided he had assaulted me enough, no other reason. Would another kick have changed my life forever? Possibly, no way to know. Would I have been justified in using lethal force to defend myself? Most likely, yes. All conditions were present.
A few months ago in my town, a brick was introduced into a fist fight, and now the guy is dead. I was involved in breaking up a 5 on 1 beatdown on one of my bouncing shifts where the guy had serious brain damage result. Just last week another guy got put into the hospital for head trauma from a fist fight. It happens all the time. In fact, more people are beaten to death with bare hands and other nearby objects than are killed with rifles of all types, including the dreaded AR-15.
The courts have recognized this for a long time, even if the people don’t and choose to riot when a guy like Michael Brown gets himself gunned down for being violent with his bare hands.
Not right there, right then as an assault is happening. Again, without getting into school-specific policy, there’s no magical force field that exists in a school that’s powered by good intentions. Setting aside school-specific policy and the ramifications of that discussion, I believe an adult who is not a prohibited person absolutely has the right to carry a gun for self-defense.
Without knowing all of the details, if I had to choose between possible expulsion and a probable beatdown with the potential to change my life forever, I think the choice is pretty clear. Especially if this person has been the innocent party in all of this and just wants to be left alone.

I agree. I don’t think anyone would “march on Washington,”(Why would anyone? Who wants the slum?) but it may be damn dangerous to be the guys collecting guns. It may not be. It’d be interesting to find out.
I think you and I know, @pat, that nobody is going to take anyone’s guns away…and if they even tried, there would be Civil War. Many…and I many MANY DEMS disagreed with Beto (and yes…don’t even hold his sentiment “off the record”). The feeling is that just at a time when there were negotiations ongoing to come up with some reforms that everyone agreed with…Beto created the click-bait of click-bait by spouting off some ridiculous shit that will never, EVER happen.
Damn…it is guaranteed that we will be seeing Beto’s face and hearing him spout these ridiculous words in every Conservative/GOP political add in the foreseeable future. That alone is enough to make any sane person want to shoot himself with an AK-47…
