POP! Goes the Democrat!

Aha! So he did!

I’ll have to confess, the reference escaped me until you pointed it out. Mea culpa, mea maxima culpa.

Yeah, I don’t know about that to much… I heard this ‘both sides are fucked up’ argument for decades. And yes, I agree both are in it for power and money. So in a sense, this is right and has been for a long time.
What I haven’t seen is the incredible policy shift that happened more so on the left than the right. You have prominent figures on the left (Bernie) openly calling for socialism. Not 10 years ago, that would have been career suicide, now some people (fat middle class white kids and actors) cheering it.

The problem, I think is a perception gap. They perceive Trump to be hard right. But his policy proposals do not back that up. His twitter may seem like it, but his policies don’t reflect hard-right policies.
See what I think people are missing is the fact that Trump will go away one day. It’s the policies that will continue and I find most (not all) pretty agreeable.

Thanks for the video, @pat

Maher certainly has his flaws…but as a Libertarian he puts Conservatives AND Liberals on notice.

In terms of your previous post…therein lies the hypocrisy…to rail against this “liberal” policy and that “liberal” policy…yet continue to benefit from them as much, if not more, than the ones you rail against.

Examples?

Remember the famous (infamous) Tea Party sign "Keep the Government out of my Social Security!..and who is it from Kansas…(@H_factor @pfury ? Other?)…the numbers don’t lie…that some of the “reddest” of states benefit the most from Government Programs…and Trump and the “farmers bailout”…the list goes on an on…

I am NOT against fellow Americans getting aide, Health Care and support especially in their retirement and when in need…but don’t turn around and scream “Those DAMN Lib’rals and the GUB’ment!!! They are what is WRONG with 'Merica!” as you and your friends feed at the trough…

I am also with Maher on the DEM debacle…

20-something plus candidates???

WTF…and most don’t even know why they are running??? WTF…???

Trump is going to eat the DEMS for breakfast, lunch and dinner when things start to get serious…

MAGA…

By the way…

Kudos to President Obama for his “Democratic Circular Firing Squad” analogy.

I hadn’t heard that one.

I said this on a different thread I believe. In the age of social media it makes a lot of sense to run for President. Brand recognition, fund raising, National exposure, etc. I think you’re going to see huge numbers moving forward from both parties.

I don’t think the size of the Democratic field helps or hurts Trump in any way. It may hurt if “the crowd” keeps anyone from rising up to challenge Biden quickly. Primaries tend to go longer when it squares down to a few people (Obama-Clinton 08).

Obviously any incumbent wants the primary to be long and bloody for the other side. I just don’t think the size of a field helps or hurts anyone really. Republicans had quite a few in 2016 and won.

The per capita social expenses in WV are near the top of the list iirc. Pretty sure we beat silly Kansas.

The only people who don’t understand how heavily rural America is reliant of socialism are the people who have never lived there.

Republicans just learned years ago to brand it as “subsidies” instead.

True, @H_factor…but let’s think about President Obama’s “Circular Firing Squad” for a moment.

In 2016…there was nothing circular about what the GOP had.

Trump was a Precision Sniper…knocking off Primary Challegers faster than he could load his magazine. It was swift and calculated…and before the GOP could say “That damn Obama!”…Trump was the nominee.

Not so with the DEMs. (IMO).

Thoughts?

It’s so weird. You have tons of Republican voters near me who are on some form of social assistance and they will rail against it. It’s sad really most of the people are too stupid to realize that they are getting it.

It’s like a bunch of people saying they don’t want to pay for food stamps and then saying “yeah I barely get 100 dollars on my debit card from SNAP. No food stamps for me!”

We have gobs of people who get social assistance and talk about how they hate socialism or something. It’s really a lack of education thing.

LOL!

LOVE that, @pfury…!

As I OFTEN say…the DEMS need to hire a new PR firm…!

I think it’s too early to tell. Trump had the advantage of not being targeted because primary Republicans didn’t take him seriously until it was to late. I don’t think Biden will have that.

Personally I don’t think at this point it’s been particularly bloody by any means for the Dems though. Of course it could turn that way it’s hard telling.

But 2016 Republicans had the biggest primary field ever if I remember correctly. I mean getting on TV in late June. Making campaign money. If you’ve got ambitions politically at this point I’m not sure why you wouldn’t run.

Definitely. This is how I vote.

To be fair the only thing that tops military alphabet soup in size, variety, and confusion is federal agency bureaucracy and program alphabet soup.

But yes I agree in part. I personally feel a lot of it is cognitive dissonance.

Yeah…but I think people know when they are getting Government Assistance…

It’s just somehow “different” when someone else is getting it?

One other point…so the “leaders” for the DEMS now are Biden, Warren and Bernie?

Let that sink in for a while…Trump is chomping at the bit to get this thing REALLY going…

Not to go here, but there is a saying similar to this for abortion.

What Pat left out is how one party’s policies rigidly align with his, so in effect, he does vote along party lines.

When they get it, it’s justice. When others get it, it’s criminal.

Very untrue in many rural areas. Take WV for example. HEAVILY reliant on massive subsidies from the cattle industry & coal industry. These subsidies are DIRECTLY responsible for the viability of virtually every large scale cattle & coal operation (ie, without the subsidies, they’d need to drastically increase prices to maintain profits, if they have them at all).

Even the extremely repressed wages in WV are propped up by socialism. Obviously then you can count WV being one of the highest ‘normal’ socialism consumer (per capita) in the country.

People in WV don’t even see subsidies as socialism. They can’t afford to. It would shatter their world view.
