Hey, I love seeing all the colors of the rainbow and a few that haven’t been invented yet. Way better than the cold reality this year
NPR has been doing a really nice job with election analysis, and post-election news. I don’t spend a lot of time in the car, but I’ve been listening to NPR again since you and @pat mentioned this, so thanks. Old times. I listened to them A LOT 20 years ago when I had a long commute to work.
BTW, I’m a little worried that a lot of Millennials seem to think that watching Bill Maher or a Stephen Colbert monologue is equivalent to knowing what’s going on in the news.
And dont forget the Facebook Feed is the truth. How could ANYONE live without it?
Haha. It’s true. Mostly memes and tweet-like junk, and people forwarding around the same stuff. It’s hard not to get a little caught up in seeing FB as “the pulse” but it’s really a sample of a few people who are likely as uninformed as I am, or worse. For anyone who has 500 FB friends, there are really only 50 bored-at-work people creating most of the feed. I come and go from checking what’s going on on FB, sometimes staying away for weeks or months at a time. It’s a strange medium.
I’m taking the stance that most of the people forwarding around video of a “Trump voter” getting a beat down in the street, and people talking about how Trump was elected and so now everyone’s inner racist is unleashed. Someone who acted normally the day before is now rude to Asians, or other groups - This might be propaganda, right? Yeah, this kind of think evokes emotion, but we shouldn’t assume it’s an accurate picture.
It’s good to have you around, Idaho.
Alcohol
Libertarianism or An-Cap if you like freedom, communism and leftism if your into authoritarian style.
(Yes I know this post is 3 weeks old)
God you’re the best.
Jesus this is golden. (In a good way.)
I take question with “balanced” by a large margin. Because “lean left” isn’t balanced. The rest of your post was correct.
They cover the 2008 meltdown very, very good. Bigly some would say.
More wonderful posting. love it
I love how some coal miner is told both simultaneously by the same party that he should shut up and check his privilege, and that they are going to end his career, by a POC who is in college crying about being oppressed, while that same dude is looking at his own son, who he won’t be able to afford to help at school at all… (And likely has to score higher to get into schools because his “race” is over represented at colleges.)
And that college kid will call that man a racist for not going along with what was said, even though the man didn’t think twice about skin color or any of it.
slow clap
Yup
Jesus… Tuesday’s election results were all over this thread.
Even above the condescending posts by SMH calling out “stupidity” everywhere. (I admittedly would have missed it to, but it’s in so-so-so many posts in this thread). Oh wait RUSSIANS!!!
I’m at like post 196… I’ll be back later I hope.
Ha Boston NPR was on suicide watch for three days. There was one reporter that didn’t sound like she was gassed out on benzos last week.
Haha! It could be a fluke, but I’ve been mostly surprised at the great job they’ve been doing with the election. Some of the segments lean left of course, but one this morning had a couple of guys arguing about Dodd-Frank and what Trump should do about regulation in banking and the moderator was doing a pretty good job of letting both sides really talk.
They’ve interviewed a pretty nice cross-section of people after the election. I think I may have to read Hillbilly Elegy, by J.D. Vance. They had him on talking about class and it’s been on my to-read list.
I’ve even started checking out PBS news a little bit, and I’m not a TV news person at all.
Yes! WWPAD? What will Paul Atkins do? Let’s hope it’s thoughtful and more than a little. Say what you want, but he was the one that noticed the idiocy of leveling large corporate fines against companies for accounting fraud and dressing them up as investor protection. Let me explain for those who don’t get this: the goal is to protect shareholders, shareholders own those laerge corporations, they got screwed once when the fraud was committed, and screwed again when that large fine was paid by the corporation they own. Let responsible management suffer, not investors. We will see.
I can’t bash their coverage as it’s been pretty square, and they haven’t bought into the histrionics, but you could hear in their voices up until at least Friday, they all wanted to cry, 24/7. Except one woman was on point. Proud of her.

4 mins in I love it. “The fucking arrogance”.
I was thinking the same thing!! Impressive, right? The journalists covering the post-election, “What the hell happened?” could have gotten a head start here. We covered all the big topics! WHOOT!!
On the downside, I still got the election outcome completely wrong!!
I missed the beginning, and the names of the people talking so I’m not sure. Did you catch it this morning? At banking, I know JACK about this so it was good for me. I do have friends who have had a very hard time borrowing money for small businesses, even with great credit and a history of cash flow. It’s gotten much harder for some of them.
It grates on me to hear that every time someone like Wells Fargo gets busted creating fake accounts, it’s a sign that “we need more regulations.” We’d have to have a government employee with a clipboard standing over everyone’s shoulder to try to prevent anyone from ever cheating ever. Meanwhile, a lot of ordinary people with routine stuff are mired under paperwork and oversight. I freaking hate this idea that as long as there is a rule-breaker, then we obviously need about 10 more people watching the kids at recess.
Just wanted to say, thank you, Beans. Sincerely. You guys are great fun and I learn a lot. Glad to have you back. Since @anon50325502 lost a bet, we need some numbers people here more than ever. It’s not my strong suit but I’m going to make an effort to understand monetary policy and the economy a bit better this year. And read more history. And get my Snatch and C + J shaped up, and figure out how in the heck to get my hook grip to not feel like it’s crushing my thumbs.
Some of you might like this interview. He talks about the media. And identity politics. Imagine a country where all these different groups split their votes, because they are thinking more about issues like the national debt, than about being part of some subgroup. That would be amazing. I hope I live to see that. White people split their vote between parties. Women split their votes. Wouldn’t that be fantastic if everyone was doing that?
He has a point about the celebrities. Why in the world should we care Cher thinks about politics? Reminded me a little bit of this Trump ad. Pretty funny.
Otherwise, I can’t listen to Bill Burr.
I know I’m the girl in the locker room here, and obviously if it really offended me I wouldn’t talk lifting or life here, but his language is distracting. Once you’ve said it 10 times, it starts to feel like fingernails on a chalkboard to me. He’s mastered it’s use in every part of speech. From Tom Wolfe’s I am Charlotte Simmons
I like Bill Burr mainly because he talks me and a lot of people I know. I don’t type like that though, because in talking it just happens very fluidly.
Had a general manager for a while that actually looked and sounded like him. The start of shift “toolbox talks” that we had were a really hard 15 min. to not laugh.
Ha! About language, one time I teased someone in another forum about washing his mouth out with soap. Another poster had made a sort of middle-aged mom joke. I can’t remember what. Anyway, I was laughing and sort of giving it back to him, but it went badly. He thought I was telling him to clean up his language or something and got really ticked. I think that’s only the second time at TN where I’ve got in sort of a misunderstanding with someone who got mad. And I wasn’t even trying!! Haha! AC and I got into it one time, but we apologized to each other. This form of communication can go very wrong. I have to be a little careful with my dry sense of humor, and with sarcasm.
Well, just so you know, I’m not very easily offended and I can pick up on the friendly tone of your posts.
Actually, for content and delivery, I’d put you at the top. If I were pissed about something you put up I’d have to wonder what it is in me that is being offended.
This election should teach celebreties to shut the fuck up and just do your art. They had zero effect on opinions all they do is serve to alienate half their potential fans. Why would you do that? Like I trust Miley Cyrus for political advice?
She rubs her pussy on stage and whacks-off a fake penis on stage and she’s going to tell me trump is lewd? Go fuck yourself Miley.
Or Gaga protesting with the people and then rides off into the sunset in her Rolls Royce Phantom, yeah she gets us. She knows our pain. Go fuck yourself gaga. Your stupid and your music sucks. Everybody sounds like a superstar when your processed through a computer you talentless whore.
Oh Pink supports clinton? Oh well, I was going to think for myself, but since a pop star supports clinton, I will vote for her!
Clearly she knowes what issues are relevant to me and my family, she fuck both men and women thats as good a resume as anything… Ijits
Thanks. Back at ya. This is the thread I was talking about SkyzykS. Post 26 to the bottom. Haha! Apoklyps made a joke about me posting porn. It was very funny. Then it kinda spiraled down. ![]()
I can really only remember two times where I got into sort of a scuffle here. Even Professor X was nice to me. Well, there was a troll one time making comments about short people on a Manlet thread, but that doesn’t count, since he was just being a jerk to everybody.
Well! He certainly told You!
Also confirms my theory of the internetz- Don’t mess with someone who had a bad ass avatar.
For sure. Note to self. Don’t mess with people with a bad ass avatar or screen name with xxx in it.
He did tell me to “Have a nice life!” There wasn’t a smiley emoticon to go with it, but I’m gonna assume sincerity. Good times.
The false outrage and hypocrisy over lewd comments, and racist, homophobe, misogynist labels put me over the edge. I despise the fact that a NY billionaire is passing himself off as a “man of the people,” but so called “progressives” will never get that because they refuse to think for themselves. They live in a binary, black and white universe with no empathy for those who think differently and no ability to engage in rational discourse. At least that’s the case with the ones I’ve come across, and they’re often otherwise intelligent people. It appears that we stopped teaching critical thinking skills in college (and even in law schools judging by some things I’ve seen at my old law school) around the time I graduated. I’ve had my best discussions with people with different ideological viewpoints, but the ability to continue to do so is fading fast. That makes me far more fearful for the country than the mere election of our current buffoon (who I’m giving a chance considering Hillary already had hers, and she demonstrated an unbelievable ability to disconnect herself from truth and yet still stay popular with the press). No, I’m not optimistic.
