This movie was written by an idiot. There isn’t one original thought in the entire thing. Oh sure it looks good… But its an empty shells.
What really pissed me off though is the use of White men and the military as the bad guys. Is JC unaware that,GULP…the military DOES WHAT the Congress and the C-in-C tell us to? Is he unaware that the, mostly DEMOCRATIC, Congress VOTED TO GO INTO IRAQ?
I guess that idiot Bush just fooled everyone, right?

I rip this movie apart over in GAL forum. And indeed your criticisms are very valid.
It looks like the movie was a collaboration between John Kerry and Al Gore.

Those armed in the movie were contractors hired by the company doing the mining. They were not military (though as in real life, mercenaries like Blackwater fill their ranks with ex-military). As an officer of over 15 years, I didn’t find Cameron’s message to have anything to do with our US military or Iraq. It was about corporate greed backed up by hired guns who had no respect for life.
hes admitted in multiple magazines and interviews that theres clear feminist/anti-mercenary/anti-colonialism/pro-first peoples messages in the movie. Maybe before the private screenings and any commercials were released he wasn’t.
sci-fi/fantasy as a genera is left leaning. its odd that it takes a movie as obviouse as Avatar to make people realize it. its like youre not paying attention at all when you watch any other sci-fi/fantasy movie.
at the end of the day its a damn good movie(if you enjoy sci-fi/fantasy). I didnt see many people jumping on the Luddite bandwagon after any Terminator movies, I highly doubt this movie will persuade anyone of anything otherwise.
not directed at you, but if watching something like Married With Children or Avatar makes your blood pressure go up, youre better off yelling at your tv in private.

You don’t understand the Left’s view of the military. To them, you’re all mercs for corporate America.
You must be familiar with the views of USMC General Smedley Butler? He fed them this stuff and they’ve been running with that ball ever since.
This is just how scifi is. They are usually pushing a very liberal agenda because the future is associated with social change, which is what liberals usually want.
If you want to read some scifi where things go differently try SM Stirling’s “Drakka” series. No happy endings with members of all races and creeds holding hands and dancing under a rainbow there.

Maybe, but have you ever heard of Heinlein. L. Neil Smith, or Koontz? They all have rightwing/libertarian message.
Check out Pallas, Dark Rivers of the Heart, or any Heinlein if you want some right wing kind of sci fi.

Also, try some S. M. Stirling and his power goes out series, or any Terminator novels. Jim Butcher’s Dresden novels are a hoot and don’t have an agenda.
Try Glen Cook’s Black Company novels also. Kind of like a sword and sorcery Blackwater thing. just be careful and order the compilations. I mistakenly ordered the old and new compilations.

Heinlein was a rightwinger? Stranger in a Strange Land is the most anti-christian, anti-family values, socially progressive book I have ever read. The Moon is a Harsh Mistress had similar elements. There certainly is a libertarian message but I don’t think that libertarians are rightwing in terms of American politics, because they are also socially liberal believing that the government doesn’t have a right to legislate morality (gay rights, abortion, church/state, etc).
Some people say that Starship Troopers is a pro-militarism story, but it seemed to me like they were also mocking it a little bit as not the most effective course.
That’s it for my Heinlein experience, are there some real rightwing stories I am missing out on?
“Basically, the white characters are portrayed as brutal, greedy and insensitive beasts who rape the environment and destroy other cultures with a smile in the search for profit”- from PRcaldudes link.
This sounds about right to me.Listen im white and this sums it up.Maybe not today but 100 years ago and further. The Brits use to travel the world and claim all the land thay found as theirs and still occupy much of it today, look at south africa.
The white race has claimed land all over the world then taken it as if it were theirs all along, I mean shit the whites came to america and gave the indians blankets infested with small pox.
If you dont think white have stepped over dead bodies for personal gain take a minute and read about the Rothschilds. “Although Evelyn Rothschild may seem like a harmless old man, make no mistake about it. Rothschild and his ancestors have hand-picked presidents, crashed stock markets, bankrupted nations, orchestrated wars and sponsored the mass murder and impoverishment of millions”

Every other race would have done it too, we were just faster on the draw.

Maybe, Access creates oppurtunity.
There is lots of evidence that vikings or the Celts came to america long before Columbus and they didnt occupy or kill off the indians like the settlers did.
