Poliquin-style Diet Support Group

Has anyone had a problem with excessive urination from taking high doses of glutamine? I took 20 g. with my Isopure drink after my workout last night and I was literally peeing every 15 min. for about six hours straight as well as when I woke up this morning too. What is the deal?

real quick, monty, i pee like a motherfucker all the time, as does my buddy (on our diet), so dont worry. ok guys a little heads up. ive been eating this really good meal lately thats very easy to make. i know deli meats are frowned apon, but my grocery store deli carries entire turkey breast by healthy choice, and as long as i get it sliced right in front of me, ill get a pound every time i go to the store. anyways, take a few slices, wrap it with a slice of provolone (ill eat it with 3 slices of provolone), and if desired put some mustard in the middle. its really good. this meal was actually ok’d by poliquin himself, as my buddy witnessed charlie eating this meal.

Just had to laugh at your post because it reminded me of my good ol’ fatboy days…I used to take slices of salami, wrap some velveeta cheese in it, and squirt in mustard…I would down like 5-10 of these “sandwiches” at a time some nights…funny to think that I might be doing it again at some point, only with completely different circumstances and slightly different ingredients.

steve i know what you mean. i was kind of timid eating this the first few times, but it fits perfectly in our diet and it tastes really good. and, on the plus side, when eating it on campus, i get just as many weird looks as i do when i eat buffalo!!

Heya T-Freques, I have a bit of a dillema here. Most of my meals on this diet center around 6-8 ounces of protein (or 2 scoops of GROW during breakfast, for example) and a tablespoon or two of Udo’s, or 4-6 flax caps, natural pb, ect. Along w/ my greens at most meals. I do not, however, feel that I am getting the proper macro breakdown of 65, 30, 5. How do I balance this out while still getting a good 200 grams of protein? (I currently weight around 170). THis is especially importnat as I want to attempt the cutting phase of the Anabolic diet soon. I am also lactose intolerant, so cheese is not an option. Any sample meals yo ucan post would be of great help. Thanks. Lata.

Ok, I’m gonna throw in my favorite meal suggestion. For convience I buy the kirkland brand canned chicken breast at cosco. It’s actually really good with only white breast meat inside. I mix a 1/2 can of chicken with a bunch of shredded lettuce, some low fat mayonaisse and some flax oil. It’s a simple but really good chicken salad. Sometimes I use tuna instead.

If you’re going to do strict keto then you’re going to have to use more than 1 tbsp. of Udo’s to get those ratios. At 40 g. protein (2 sc. Grow), you’ll need 2-2 1/2 tbsp. Also, for most people, if you are going to go high protein AND the 65/30/5 ratios, something’s gonna have to give. Either lower your protein (unless you’re over 200 lbs.) or lower the fat. Simple as that. Personally I would lower the fat and make it more Poliquin-style, but my body can tolerate this well…some aren’t so lucky.

Thanks, bro. I think I’ll drop the fat a little bit as I am always wary of playing around with protein too much. I figure I’ll drop down to 1 TBS. of Udo’s per meal or 2-3 flax caps. I’d like to keep the protein around 200, though I always wind up taking in around 220 for the day. Ottentimes I have issues with satiation. I mean, I’m 5’6 and around 170, but I like to friggin’ EAT. That greens help in that particular area. Thanks again. Lata.

Where do you guys get buffalo at? The stores around me only carry the standard meat selection. I do like that deli turkey and provolone suggestion though.

Hey, does anyone want to hit me back on Chuck P’s recommendations for post-workout shake based on reps? Thanks…

I was wondering about the buffalo too. I can’t seem to find it at any of my local grocery stores.

12-72 reps per workout: .6 g./kg LBM
73-200: .8 g./kg LBM
201-360: 1 g./kg LBM
361-450: 1.2 g./kg LBM

The above varies depending on what muscle groups are being worked. 30-40 percent of carbs come from high GI fruit juices such as pineapple/grape, and the rest from carb powders e.g. Ultra Fuel. This came directly from an Ask the Guru article.

Try Trader Joe’s for Buffalo. It will most likely be out of stock, so call before you go. Not to hijack a thread, but MB I saw that you’ve read up on Sufism… what are some books you liked on that topic? This summer I’ve gone through Mohammed Iqbal’s stuff and been blown away, and now I’d like to research his philosophy’s derivatives.

How long can u stay on this base diet for?
Doesn’t CP recomend some sort of 2 day high cal for a lo cal day? and could u say stay on this diet at 21-22cals per pound for 8 weeks, with carbs ups every 4th day. then drop down to 15-18 cals per pound for 8 weeks? or ne other kinda of Bulk, maintenence cutting sceme? without your body getting accustomed, and hitting any sort of bodyfat, or muscle gain piont. Im afraid of this because with my t-dawg diet, and meltdown training. My body fat stayed the same, and i lost 5 pounds of muslce. and on the diet i was on before the t-dawg i was leaner.
another thing, no oatmeal, or whole grains on this diet? I can’t wait to start this diet, its going to be a while though, im only 2 weeks into my transition into massive eating.

Heya Pluto, it has been a while since I have really sat down to read my Sufi books, but I have several books by Idres Shah, mostly collected tales of Dervish parables and wisdom. Though it has been time since I have engaged in studies, I do not stray froth the pathless path.

Okay…I went to the store last night and picked up some provolone cheese. Out of curiosity, why is this recommended? High saturated fat and sodium (yes, I know it’s cheese)…is it the type of protein/fatty acid profile? My guess is Chucky just likes the taste of it.

Also, in a previous T-Mag Q and A, Coach P. broke down a 12-week program using 3 weeks German Body Comp, 3 weeks Maximal Weights, 3 weeks German Volume and 3 weeks 1/6. Has anyone ever done this? I’m getting ready for a particular “12 week program” if you know the language I’m speaking, and I may use this as my training routine. I’m predominantly fast-twitch so I generally lose 1RM strength on higher rep phases, but it’s been so long since I’ve done anything over 6 reps that I’m thinking I may get a nice little growth spurt. Thoughts?

Monty, I did something very close to this last Fall (about a year ago exactly actually). However, I did not begin with German Body Comp…I went straight into the max weights, proceeded to GVT for two weeks only, then transitioned into the 1-6 style. While eating what I believed to be 300-400 cals above maintenance each day throughout the 9 weeks, I went from (pulling out the training/nutrition log) 193lbs at 11.2% to 203 at 12%. My strength levels also soared during this time, with some of my lifts increasing by as much as 18-20%. It should be noted that up to this point, my training history (all year and a half of it) had been somewhat unintelligent, though my nutrition had been in line for quite some time. It was actually when I discovered T-Mag and a few other resources that I began this program. Enough reminiscing…bottom line, give it a shot if you are a Poliquin fan…worked great for me.

That’s a pretty nice amt. of gains! I’ve done GVT both with 10/10 and 10/6. All the upper body lifts with the exception of chins I did well on…legs was a different story. When I did 10/6 on squats instead of 10/10, I got really good results. I have been dieting/maintaining for about six months now, so my body is just screaming for a good mass phase. I’m gonna stick with the Poliquin diet, just with 8 meals instead of 6 and a carb-up every fifth day. I can’t wait!

Monty-I’m thinking of doing something along those lines myself. The tradition Poliquin split corresponds nicely to the every 5th day carbup, as you always want to carbup on a rest day.

I’m gonna give that a go. I originally wanted to do a four-day split (M-T-Th-F), throwing a deadlift workout in as I can’t seem to do squats/deads in the same workout without getting injured. I think I’m gonna use a different order as Steve suggested. Since I’ve been dieting/maintaining I’m gonna move German Body Comp to the last three-week phase and put one of the others first. I like the newer Poliquin GVT routine as it puts the horizontal pushing/pulling together (bench/rows instead of bench/chins. I can’t get anywhere near 10/10 on chins anyway. Came pretty close to 10/4 a while back. Heck, I might even just do the 12-week Maximal Weights program as I’m a fast-twitcher anyway. Decisions, decisions! I have to say this is the best thread I’ve ever been a part of…well, maybe second best next to the “Romance Advice Needed” thread I started when I was going by TeddyKGB. Peace.
