“Why do you carry a knife?”
I work in an office and attend lots of meetings. Sometimes I even have to give briefings and answer questions. I discovered my answers were more quickly accepted when I used a Bowie and big words than when I only used big words.
I personally have and carry multiple knives. Everyday I carry my Victorinox Tinker Swiss Army knife, my well used Spyderco Native with the full metal clip, and my recently aquired Emerson CQC-7B with the black blade, 1/2 seration, and wave feature. The emerson is the fastest opening knife I have ever owned. I also carry a Glock Model 19 for those who are interested.

It is the way that people like you present these questions, because I think two people used the “WTF?” like we are from another planet. Goddamnit, if you have to ask why we carry them around, then go find another thread to post on. Not everybody works in a damn office where the sharpest object is a pen with your company’s name on it. THe least you could do when you ask the question is be polite.

Fair enough, I concede starting my question with “wtf” as being impolite, my apologizes. I meant wtf as more of an incredulous expression as in “whoa I didn’t know so many people carry knives”. I am sorry if anyone got offended by my usage of the term “wtf”.

Yes, and we are everywhere. You will never know when one of us is behind you or standing next to you in a crowded room or overpacked elevator. Be afraid…be very afraid.

…Or just carry one yourself, and should we ever meet we could whip 'em out and tussle. Just not in the face though, that’s how I make my livin’s
I carry a Kershaw Chive.
It’s small and I never bump in on things, never falls out of my pocket, and it sharpens pretty well for a small knife. Holds an edge relatively well. I carry it with me to cut open random things…I don’t gut deer with it! It works well. I like it’s small size and the quasi-switchblade action is a cool plus.
I’ve carried a couple other blades including buck, spyderco, benchmade (lost that one…wish I hadn’t), and a Harley Knife I got as a gift. They are all good knives and have benifits, but I just like the small size of the Chive. Not a pricey knife either, I think I paid $25 for it on e-bay about two years ago.
I lost my litle Kershaw Onion and replaced it with a Benchmade Pica. I like the harder steel and half serrations on the Pica but I gotta admit, I really miss the coolness factor of that finger flick opening on the Onion. I always found it funny when people would jump at that tiny blade because of the switchblade-like opening speed.
I’ve carried some sort of blade since I was a little kid in KC. I may not use it every day, but I do use it a couple times a week for various purposes. I hope I never have reason to pull it on another person but I have to agree with the “Better to have and not need…” attitude. Besides, face it, they’re cooool.

Meh, I’ll just blast you with my sawed off shotgun that I carry around with me. It has a lot of uses, like shooting people and umm… shooting other things.
from Cold Steel until I was told by a cop friend that while it wasn’t technically illegal, it would be difficult to prove in court that a folding knife with a 6" blade was to be used for cutting seatbelts in case of emergency on the highway (the excuse I used to use).
I know just carry with my Smith and Wesson Extrme Ops Kerambit… nothing special but I love the feel of a Kerambit and have been practices many transition (overhand/underhand) techniques and have been getting pretty good with it. Or I’ll carry my Cold Steel Tanto Pt. Voyager. I love the Tanto point, such a strong design, proven capable of punching through car doors and hoods.
I carry two, since I am a redneck and all. I carry a Smith and Wesson cliped inside my pocket and find it very durable and easy to operate. I also keep one clipped inside my boot but most days it is not a folding knife so I guess that is no help.
I carry two karabits I got Indonesia, I have a a former workmate who used to carry two viper throwing knives he called snick and snack.
I have carried swords only when bringing them home for my collection, now you need a special weapons licences for collectables. and althouth I may not need a knife for my work a knife always comes in handy.

According to whom? I have never heard of this…and I have weapons.
Might be an Australian thing for licensing.
BTW Prof X, I hear ya on the taken for ransom but hideout knife saves the day :).[/quote]
Yep It’s an Australian thing you even need a spec weapons liceneces for some wooden weapons,
but the weapons that are used most on the street you can legally buy.
The law here can be so stupid criminals get away with murder and someone who wants to train in the martial arts get dirty looks from the cops.

Australia does have retarded weapons laws, though. You need a firearms licence to own a paintball gun. No joke.
