If I hear another person say “Trump’s “tough” talk” got Kim to the table…or hear Giuliani babble on about the guy “begging” to get back to the table with Trump (more below)…after I finish throwing up…will someone please just shoot me?

Xi didn’t have a “Summit”; or a lot of media hype; or dribbling Fan Boys talking about his “toughness”. He probably called Kim in…said a few words…and in firm Chinese…looked Kim in his eyes and said “…Fix this…”…then probably even kissed him on his cheek…
One thing Giuliani was probably right about…Kim was on his knees begging for the summit to be back on…
Because he didn’t want to end up in a Mausoleum beside his Dad and Granddad…

I’m strongly of the opinion that people such as Trump and Kim only respect people who are like them. Given they have a good deal of similarities, I think its very possible Kim only did anything because of Trump.
Also, I think ultimately NK wants global recognition and attention, and Trump was more than willing to give them that.
(For some reason…Zeb was/(is?)…I think he post under different names…) is the only one who seemed to just get on that last nerve with me. Not because he was/(is?) a bad guy…but he sure could/(can?) get me going with his partisan/anti-Obama Bullshit…)
I think any “Like” or “Respect” Kim has is because Xi told him to get his shit together…and that if he DOES want to be a player on the World Stage then he better start acting like it.
For this to be true I think the base assumption would have to be that Kim jong un is a reasonable and/or logical man. I’m yet to see a single thing that comes close to convincing me of that.

I’ve read that North Korea’s nuclear testing plant had a bad accident and radiation spilled over into China. On top of that, for years North Koreans have been slipping over the border into China because it was better living in China illegally. So my money is on Beijing finally deciding North Korea pissing off the US is more trouble than it’s worth. And since Trump’s “negotiating skills” are a myth, there is no better time for them to get a good deal. China already bought off Trump with sweet heart deals for his family business in exchange for helping a Chinese electronics company.
Wouldn’t this still imply that it was because of Trump? I don’t ever remember anyone saying, “we better not piss off Obama” or even being scared of retaliation. Hey, it could be they’re all actually scared of Mattis, as they should be. It just amazes me how president after president failed to do anything about North Korea and finally under Trump, we are seeing progress in bringing NK to talks and he gets zero credit because people have this emotional response to him one way or another…
Someone needs to create a thread(I don’t care enough tbh) where we say what each Obama and Trump have accomplished in office instead of giving them zero credit for anything like emotional, partisan jackasses.
It imply’s that North Korea’s Technology had gotten to the point where he felt by bluster and firing off ICBM’s he (Kim) could “force” respect and recognition that he desperately needed and still wants.
Trump…(much like with the economy)…is in the right place at the right time.

It terms of “pressure”? EVERY President has exerted as much economic and Military pressure on North Korea as Trump has. Contingencies to bury it under a Thermonuclear cloud have been in place since the Armistice.
All of the posturing now is because in the past North Korea’s bluster; (in China’s eyes); was no more than letting a spoiled brat kick and spit at the back of the airline seat of the U.S.
When it actually began to affect them…and that child was marching toward Nuclear Tipped ICBM’s on their borders…it had reached a tipping point that it never had before.

I give Obama credit for Osama Bin Laden catching a bullet despite Obama not having to actually do much real legwork. Same principle applies to Trump with NK
