They probably would have found a way, there is evidence that Stalin already had plans to sweep into East Prussia and roll over Germanies east flank which was only defended by two division at that point.
It is somewhat telling that the Wehrmacht was able to push through the Sowjet lines and circle their forces, making 6 million prisoners, including matériel.
It is tough to say whether Stalin actually wanted to attack or whether he simply feared a German attack and wanted to be prepared, however, if it was the former, the SU was only days away from striking at Germany and that might have been Stalins idea all along, to let Europe plunge into war, wait it out and then take whatever he wanted. If so, the quick German successes against France, Belgium and whatnot had fucked up his timetable.
Anyhow, I would not have felt comfortable with all of the Red Army at my back either.
