Picking Myself Up Off the Floor

Hey everyone,
I’m Eryka and I’ve been a lurker here for quite some time. Feel its about time to come out and play for real. Also, I miss having a sense of community with like minded people, especially women.

For the past 2 years I haven’t been able to workout due to surgery, illness, and the end of a 4 year abusive relationship. What’s worse, my abusive ex used exercise/the way I look as a form of control. For a long time I was literally terrified of working out and becoming that woman again, broken and powerless.

So now, after many rounds of physical therapy, re-education, and finding my big girl panties, I’m ready to begin again. Except this time its going to be for me and I’m only going to do it smartly and with the overall health of my entire being as top priority.

Well, I guess that’s it as an intro. I’m looking forward to “meeting” everyone and seeing where this journey goes.

Thank you for reading,
Eryka

Good for you in deciding to be a strong predator instead of weak prey. Remember, everytime you train, you are making yourself better than the abusive asshole you were with. I hang out on the combat forum, lot of very knowledgeable people over there, if you ever want advise for training in the combat arts. Good Luck .

Welcome, Eryka and congratulations on taking positive steps in your life. I would encourage you to keep a training log, either here in the women’s forum or in the training logs section. There are a lot of very helpful and inspiring people here helping each other out.

Welcome! I’m sorry to hear about your abusive relationship, but I am glad that you are making the necessary steps to recovery!

Thanks everyone, its been a rough one for sure. Looking forward to getting back into things. I wouldn’t call myself an “old pro” but I’m not a newbie either. However like a lot of people I started out too fast and over did things. Now I’m looking to perfect my form and go for quality. No more burpees where your hips sag during a pushup and have serioud APT during squats, yaknow?
