Mustang Shelby GT Love this car
I love all three cars, but I lean to the GTO. Mostly because my first car was a 74’ Goat.
According to my cousin, who is an auto dealer, the GTO impressed him more than just about any stock vehicle in it’s price range ever.
I’m saving up to buy one in a few years. I just bought a mini-van, so now I must balance the garage with something for DAD.
I am a little disappointed in the 2006 Charger. The concept vehicle was MUCH cooler.
Sorry but IMO there is no such thing as a modern muscle car. They are toy images of there former selves.
Spend the cash and get a real MUSCLE car.
I’ll take my 350Z over any of those cars any day. It’s a much more competant car at the limits of handling, and generally better balanced. If you want a true “muscle car”, it probably doesn’t fit. It’s more power with finesse. But it’s not a wussie car by any stretch, and I’ll take that finesse when drifting around a 35-mph ramp at 85, any day.
Why not stick with the same brand?
The 350Z would be my first choice (if I had a car).

charger srt8 will be around $39K and it’s the only car that can fit easily and comfortably 4 large adults. The mustang is basically a 2 seater with a non functional back seat. The Gto on the other hand can accomidate 4 adults not easily though but definitely bareable.
my friend owns the 2004 gto and the car is planty fast even with the 350hp. I wish it had thicker tires to put the power down more efficiently. the interior is nice and the gauges are awesome compared to the retro looking mustang.
the shelby gt500 will be due out fall 2006 so you will have to wait a long time for it. I must admit that the lines on the shelby are nice.

I’m trying to recall what the concept photos looked like, but I really do like the looks of the Charger quite a bit, especially the SRT. I’m a little taken aback to say it might be my fave out of the three (although the Shelby is probably the prettiest out of all the ones discussed IMO).
Phil, I can appreciate your position as well. Me, I like newer “stuff” in general (although I do love certain kinds of classics, from James Bond flicks to baseball teams of old).

Every car I’ve owned up to this point has been a Nissan, so I like them quite a bit, they’ve been good to me and the 350Z is a beautiful car. My only problem is that it is a pure 2 seater. But for that, it would be under serious consideration.

I don’t think you could go wrong with any of those cars. But cocider buying used like an '04 SVT Mustang- 390 HP 390 Ft-lbs. Or perhaps a 02-04 Z06 - They are hovering in the low $30’s right now, many of them have very low miles and are flat fucking amazing. I have a friend with one so far has beeten, well everybody porches have been his favorite food. Last years GTO’s are pretty cheap, they just never sold well and small adaptations will easily push this car over 400 HP. Good lord I could go on for ever, just get your self the bad-ass car of your choice. Keep the family beater for rainy days.
I like the used Z06 idea. 4 second 0-60 and a 12.4 1/4 mile, fantastic brakes and 1g handling (albeit a tad stiff). The metallic blue with the red brake calipers is a beautiful looking car.
And I bet prices will come down even more now that the new Z06 will be out (427 small-block stroker - 500HP!).

Would you say the GT or wait for the Shelby Cobra version?
Well, if funding weren’t an issue, damn straight I’d wait for the Shelby. If I were totally loaded, I’d buy the GT now and trade in for a Shelby later.
But alas, funding is a serious concern. Myself, I’d have more fun buying the GT now and spending the money to upgrade it as I could afford it.
You say that you’ll only have more responsibility later on. Yes, this is true, but it doesn’t mean you won’t be able to have an awesome car when you’re older.
How secure are you financially? Assuming you are young, it would be very helpful to have a car that is paid off, rather than living beyond your means. How important are cars to you? If you value having a badass car highly, then go for it. But don’t make the mistake of buying a nice new car and having it be a burden to you financially. If that is even a possibility, I recommend waiting until you are older and can afford a car even better than the ones you’re considering now.
Ahh sports cars, you know I have never been a big fan of sports cars. I am more of an SUV kinda gal.
Now, my husband just purchased himself a 2005 Mustang V6. There was no need for him to get the GT, the V6 has plenty of power and also gets good gas mileage. I have to admit, for not being a big fan of sports cars, I really like the new mustang and it’s really fun to drive!
Kuz,
What is your main reason for getting a sports car? Hmmm, need I really ask this question. I would actually have to disagree with the comment that if you don’t get the GT there is no point. The V6 will save you on gas and insurance and looks just as sweet as the GT. Besides considering that you will probably be using this simply for transportation and not on the race track, do you really need the horse power of the GT? Just something to think about, but of course it is ultimately your decision.
Something else to consider is by going with the V6, the starting price is much lower which gives you room to get all the upgrades you might want.
One more thing, if you do choose the GT you may have to get on a waiting list. I know here in Colorado the GT models are always completely sold out before they even get them in stock. The salesman told my husband a person would have to wait several months to get one. And with the popularity of the new Mustang there is little chance of getting any discounts in price.
Whatever you choose, it’s good you are doing your research! Always pays to be informed. When you do make the final purchase be sure to post some pics!
I had a 2000 Mustang GT convertible, and though the back seat is small, it is not “nonfunctional”, I piled 3 guys in the back a lot of times.
There is room to put your legs, just not a lot (maybe half a foot). A true nonfunctional back seat would be like the Porsche or Z cars, where the front seat smacks right against the back.
So, for short trips, you can put people in the back of a stang, esp. when i had the convertible, I had to since everyone was begging for me to be the driver all the time
I sold it for over the blue book price too. The guy that bought it said mine was the only one that looked good (I never raced and didn’t beat the hell out of it).
I really want the new stang, I might get the cobra next year. But I am buying a house right now. Damn this being a responsible adult!
I bought a 2005 MustangGT back in November, and love it more and more every day. The car is awesome… Ford really came through on this one. Therefore, no question… the Mustang GT.
It’s funny people think that today’s muscle cars are not “muscle” compared to the 60’s. Quick in the 60’s was actually 14’s for the most part (with exception of Yenko cars, and what-not). Nowadays, you can get a Z06 and run a mid-12 off the lot. Hell, my '98 Z28 ran 13.2’s with a change in shift points and new airbox. That’s my everyday highway car with 152,000 miles on the odo.
A modern Mustang with nitrous or blower coupled with some electronic tuning will waste most anything on the road while still retaining nice streetable manners when you want to cruise. I drive my '94 GT (132,000 miles on the odo) to whatever track I want, run 11’s, then drive home. I can fit 4 people with no problem for around town cruising, as well. With big brakes and a decent suspension, I have a lot of fun on freeway ramps and in the twisties, too.

the 350z is a pure 2 seater, not a 2+2.
also when you are the smallest in the group at 5’9 215lbs and the rest are over 6" you can not fit anyone in the backseat. i know cause we tried it at the auto show. it also depends on the driver. i like to drive in an upright position with my legs stretched out. that means in most cars the seat is all the way near the back. the numbers don’t lie, you can look at the interior dimensions of the vehicles as far as leg room goes. a few inches here and there make a big difference. laters pk
Those 06 Cobras,I’d probably have kids to sell them off and buy on of those.I just compared em and the Shelb looks twice as mean with 450 hp,sweet Jesus!I appreciate you turning me on to this car.Its now officially the car of my dreams. Will there be anymore colors?

LOL I am guessing they will also do one in blue with the white racing stripes. Honestly, I wish I could find the link for when they first rolled it out at the NY Auto Show. Those photos were AMAZING. RJ, do you have that link that I sent you anywhere?

LOL I’m sorry, it’s just the way you keep saying “wait until you’re older” makes me feel like I am 16 and my Dad is lecturing me on my allowance. I’m 32 and thinking more along the lines of the inevitable responsibilities to follow (wife, kids, etc.) but always good points to consider. But finances-wise? I am in fine shape. I might not get anything at all… but it is an intriguing thought.
my two cents: i like the mustangs but there’s alot of secretaries driving them. dude keep the nissan and get a real one of a kind ride.
varitek AGAIN! walk off hr bottom 9th! who needs a closer when we got jv?!
