Phlegms' Beginner Log

I need to foam roll and stretch more again. That benching is starting to get pretty legit, you’ll be catching up to your training partner if you keep this up  [/quote]

Thanks! My bench is feeling good at the moment, finally starting to get the hang of the back arch/leg drive stuff. Hoping for 140kg by the end of the year!

10th January 2012:

A. Smolov Jr. Bench:
3 sets of 3 @95kg (2 ez so upped the weight)
7 sets of 3 @97.5kg (Pr. ez monies)

B. Snatches:
barxmany
40kgxmore
45kgx1
50kgx2
55kgx2
60kgx1
62.5kgxmiss
65kgx1
67.5kgx1 (+2.5kg Pr)

C. Plyo Rope Climbs:
10 sets

Notes:
Bench felt awesome today, it feels pretty unstoppable at the moment. Snatches were feeling decent enough, had some issues getting the bar behind me enough in the catch position. All round good session.

What is going on with that bench! I’m going to go ahead and say your actually most likely a stronger bencher then me now despite weighing quite a bit less and also despite where you were a year ago. Seriously, you must be doing just about everything right at the moment, it’s really showing. Some of the most impressive progress I’ve seen considering the starting point on any of these logs.

ps. congrats on the snatch too… creeping up to pretty respectable!

I’d agree, I’m really liking where my bench is going at the moment. It seems to be a combination of really nailing a powerlifting style form that works for me and switching to a higher frequency. Honestly, after giving Smolov Jr. a whirl for the last couple of weeks I’m not sure if I could see myself switching back to a once a week frequency for bench.

A. Cleans and Power Jerks:
60kgx3
70kgx3
80kgx1 x2
90kgx1 (Power Jerk Pr)
95kgx1 (Split jerk Pr, +5kg)

B. Oly Squats:
5 sets of 7 @ 105kg

C. Front Squats:
60kgx1
80kgx1
100kgx1
112.5kgx1 (+2.5kg Pr)
60kgx15
70kgx15
80kgx12

D. Plyo Rope Climbs:
somexsome in between sets of everything else

Notes:
Solid training, took a bunch of attempts to get the jerk on the 95kg single, but eventually I got there so was happy enough with a 5 kilo PR. With the front squats I definitely had more in me, I was just pretty fatigued from full cleaning and then back squatting in the same session. Include a vid. of the plyo rope climbing for dem lulz. Don’t be mirin’ my explosiveness too hard…

Do the shoes help much on the rope climbs?

They definitely allow me to hit depth anyway…

What oly shoes do you have? I’m considering getting some.

look like adidas to me. I have strengthshop uk ones #supportingtheuksweightliftingscene.

Cool training as usual phlegms, dem rope climbs be crazy. i should get my squatting up before you really overtake me for good .

I have the "Adidas Power Perfect II"s. Definitely one of the best investments you can make for your lifting. Its ridiculous how much better squatting (front and oly squatting in particular) feels in them. These ones were a bit pricey (think they retail around the $150 mark) but they are definitely a once off investment, so its better to get decent quality pair first time.

Much love for strength shop uk, bought some wrist wraps and knee sleeves off them a couple of months ago and they have been doing a great job of keeping my joints feeling healthy through all this ridiculous training I’ve been doing…

Awesome! I would much rather get a quality pair once and be done with it.

They also make Oly lifts doable with proper form, which is always a plus!

This is kinda random, but have you heard of two door cinema club? I ask b/c they are from N. Ireland.

Yeah they were hugely popular over here for a while, not sure where/what they are doing now but they had some decently catchy tunes at the time.

A. Smolov Jr Bench:

6x6 @ 90kg (Pr)

B. High Hang Clean Pulls:
70kgx10 x2
110kgx10 x2

C. Seated Calves:
5 sets of 10

D. Ez Curls:
3 sets of 8 @ 35kg

E. Face Pulls /ss/ Hammer Curls:
4x8/4x8

Notes:
Another day, another bench pr. Actually upped my working weights on smolov jr. today by 10kg, solid gains all round really. My last day of smolov Jr. will be interesting just to see how much I can up the 10x3 working weight by. Regardless, this cycle of smolov jr. has done serious things for my bench!

Can u bench 3 plates yet?

Not quite…give me a week and I’ll prolly up my 1rm by a hundo lbs or something, such is the power of smolov!

With all the PRs up in here, I wouldn’t be surprised if you did add a hundo.

Yep, the oly shoes are great, as are their version of fat gripz (when it was down to 20) and their grippers. I’ll probably get knee sleeves at some point but I never really feel I need them (#howdoyoutell) I’ve had wrist wraps from them for awhile now.

MUST TRY AND GET AHEAD OF PHLEGMS UNSTOPPABLE BENCH
