I to stop squatting due to pain from my right upper glute injury and I also had to skip the snatch grip deadlifts. Deadlifting on Saturday aggravated my injured glute. I had hoped by thoroughly warming up my glutes that I would be able to squat, but that was not the case. After thinking about it and consulting with my chiropractor Jason Venn, we decided it would be better to not squat and deadlift at Unequipped Nationals. This was going to be my one of my toughest weeks of training in this block periodization program. If I couldn’t make it through the next few weeks of training my chances for a good meet and avoiding injury were not good. My plan is to train for bench only at the same meet and rehab my glute.

Since daughter has to be in Denton on Wednesday nights, I started training in Denton with my friend James Dunn tonight. This worked out well because James and I have been trying get together occasionally to train. We had a good workout and it was good to have someone to train with again. I had changed my schedule to Tuesday, Thursday, Saturday, but with the lack of spotters I knew I had to change my schedule. So now I will be training Monday, Wednesday and Friday.

Could it be that you tore something in the past and now have some scar tissue floating around or is it something else entirely? Good luck with the rehab.

Thanks, novaeer! I am hoping my rehab doesn’t take too long. I injured my glute at USAPL Raw Nationals on July 26. I should have seen a chiro sooner and I would probably would have been fully recovered by now. I am seeing two different chiropractors. My holistic doctor and my friend and teammate Jason Venn. They both use different methods.

I see my holistic doctor for hepatitis C. He is a good chiro, but he doesn’t take insurance and charges $100 a visit, which is fine for the main reason I see him and I only have to see him once every 8 weeks. Jason on the other hand takes insurance and my copay is $20, so I can see him more frequently.

Lately I have been seeing Jason twice a week. I saw my holistic doctor this week and he was able to activate my glute and hip flexor, which were shutdown. Between chiro treatments and rehab I should bounce back soon. I historically have had great success with my holistic doctor and I think the additional treatments from Jason will speed the healing process.

Since I will be competing bench only due to my glute injury, I decided it would be a good idea to add another bench press variation to my training program.

Speedy recovery to you Phillip.

The invitations for the USAPL Raw Challenge at the Arnold Classic are out and I qualified to compete there. I am very excited and will be competing.

Thanks for checking out my log and thanks for the congrats, HitEmHard!

I really like the glute work. I can really feel it in my glutes and it’s not taking much effort to do it. I plan to progress to the next phase in a couple weeks or so.
