Philando Castile Shooting

Obviously not.

-There’s no explanation for that other than hatred of black people by white people(especially white police officers).

Looks to me like the GJ did the right thing and the Black Police Officer was found to have been doing his job. I don’t quite understand your comment above. What hatred toward black people?

“Gilbert Collar, a white, unarmed 18-year-old under the influence of drugs was shot and killed Oct. 6, 2012, by Officer Trevis Austin, who is black, in Mobile, Alabama. Despite public pressure for an indictment, a Mobile County grand jury refused to bring charges against Officer Austin, concluding that the officer acted in self-defense.”

What if she was in fear for her life? Some dude was shooting at her!

The Police Officer is not “some dude”.

Cops are cops not saints. Arguing with a cop shouldn’t be a crime punishable by death.
The Eric Garner thing was way wrong and you know it anyone with 2 eyes could see the cop could have let go. He choose not to because he wanted to teach Eric a lesson for not being compliant.
It was excessive force. The 6 to 1 probably has more to do with percentage of arestees not some dumb biology of race thing. Please let’s not go down that retarded theory.

That’s why I’ve said that there are bad cops just like bad doctors, bad lawyers etc.

Where did I say that should be the case? I merely said obey a lawful order. Not obeying one is a crime.

And the grand jury that investigated every facet of the case said that the cop was in the right.

Maybe he just wanted to complete the arrest as it is every Officers duty once begun.

Zeb, you wrote that “Castile was killed because he was simply not following the lawful orders of a Police Officer who was carrying out his duties.” You made it sound as though a police officer can legally kill someone for refusing to provide his identification when asked. Castile was killed because he caused the officer to fear for his life. I would prefer not to paint police officers as willing to kill over mere disobedience.

Jeronimo is 100% Some Dude. He is off the force because of his terrible judgement, during THIS incident.

You’d get a lawyer to protect you from the DA.

You use accountants to protect you from the IRS.

How do you protect yourself from a police officer who is convinced you’re worse than Darth Vader?

Right, if he had followed the lawful order of a Police Officer he would not have continued to reach for what the Officer thought was a gun.

Simple enough.

No at the time he was a Police Officer. And one final point: A Grand Jury found no reason to indict. Don’t think for a second that they didn’t pour over every detail of the case. Unlike you and I who are sitting on the sidelines having a friendly discussion. They really studied this case for many days and found no reason to charge the Officer.

Yeah, that’s what I mean.

Could the theoretical self defense go both ways?

This is a pretty good article on whether or not there’s an issue with how police are trained. It suggests that training isn’t an issue, but recruiting may be.

This is not a training issue. This is an issue of who it is that we’ve decided we would allow to police our country. - Donald Grady II, a retired police chief with over 30 years in uniform

It goes on to say that there’s a difference between officers who view themselves as guardians and those that view themselves as warriors. For the record, my experience tells me that most LEO’s view themselves as the former, but it only takes a few “warriors” to create some problems for whole departments.

I’ve seen this subject pop up more and more in recent years.

I been saying this for years. But the biggest issue is race. Too many ethnic areas patrolled by cops that dont relate or come from area. I got a black chick friend runs a PR firm shes making a shit ton of money doing “race sensitivity training” at white majority precints. She says statistically its been bringing down complaints and law suits. Im in Missouri so ever since Fergason some areas are trying to do better. Cant say that for Ferguson its still a crime to be driving while black there.

I see a ton of that in the city I work in. I’ve got a couple friends on the force and even though the city has double the % black population compared to the nation, they’ve got sub 5% black for police officers. And of that sub 5%, they’re treated like shit if they’re stationed in the nicer parts of town.

In my opinion this is a legitimate and totally reasonable issue to solve with targeted recruiting or “affirmative action,” or whatever controversial policy gets more cops looking like the population they police.

I can’t remember which intense African American law enforcement guy said it, but in a press conference he said something like, “I’d love to hire more black cops, but my phone is not ringing.”

Based on the info I saw he gave commands that were confusing. At the time the cop didnt know he was high.
So cop says “Get your license and registration” He says I have a gun "Cop says dont go for it “He moves a bit maybe then cop unloads”
He should have said put your hands on the wheel, freeze or hands up…
Its now obviose Castillio was high and was in the process of reaching for papers while or shortly after he mentioned the gun… becuase he was high and confused his reaction time was shit.
Also explains the calm GF… Ive been on some good Kush so I can see how its easy to fuck up commands. He would have no reason to shoot a cop over a traffic stop with family in the car. So lets all not paint this guy as monster. He made a mistake and paid with his life.
Technically I agree with Jury based on the law he didnt commit murder… But its piss poor policing that resulted in a dead guy. It will be a monster law suit.

The idea it was a robbery suspect is bogus… If it was they would not have been so calm or standing infront of window… Trust me I know… I have a record so when I get pulled over I give them ID then when they run my info my hands are on wheel they always come back with tense comands or gun out

This guy fucked up big time and should not be on the force. This mistake could have been avoided. Castillio should have froze but officer is the paid trained officer he could have easily done the stop 10x better… For instance he could have changed positions behind the driver and comanded him to put hands out window and step out. That 1 foot step could have saved his job and saved Phils life… Phils biggest crime was being high and dumb but last I checked thats not a death sentence… Family deserves compinsation and department needs to learn from this and train better
