The hardest part about having pets is that we outlive them. So sorry about your loss.

You could always get a Scarlet or Hyacinth Macaw or other large parrot. I have friends that have a Scarlet and and African grey.

I’m sorry to hear that, buddy. I can deal with pretty much anything, but when it comes to loosing a cat or a dog, i’m a mess.

21 years old is a pretty good age for a cat.

lots of great pictures on this thread.

here is my 130lb dane Sebastion, the best dog i have had so far. 3 years old.

here he is again lying around with Milo, a 110lb American bulldog i fostered for a while, a good friend of mine adopted him and i still dog sit for him odd weekends.

There really is something special about Great Danes. They are such sweet dogs. Seamus is the first Great Dane I have ever been around and he is such a love bug. He loves kids, and wants to be a lap dog:

I am so sorry to hear this. I have had my share of pet losses the last several years, including my 30 year old mare, a mini mare and her foal, our elderly cat, a pair of rabbits, and my blind and deaf dog. Now my animals are all young, thank goodness.

Anyway, I know how painful it is to lose a beloved pet.

Beautiful Danes!!!

How’s Rocco doing, GI??

My boys Cash and Mojo

I’d love to get a either a Bobcat or a Lynx, if I had the space and money.

Lynx.

I thought a bobcat and lynx were the same thing. Just the names vary by region.

Imhungry, since you are a cat afficianado, here is a pic of my girls, Camille and Lily. Cami is the longhaired one. Both cats are rescues from shelters.

Bobcats and lynx are incredible animals, but best in the wild. I had a friend with a pr of bobcats, and while they were affectionate to humans, they were def. wild animals still. Even with a large enclosure, they paced and paced and wanted out. And they destroyed the house so could not be kept inside.

Lynx are almost pathologically shy in captivity. They are magnificent critters.

I am a huge believer in wild animals staying in the wild.

Have you looked into some of the domesticated breeds like a pixiebob, that have the look of the wild cats but not the wild natures? I have a friend who raises Bengal cats. She is a wildlife biologist and knows a lot about the way the wild cats were incorporated into the breeding to create the Bengals.

They’re in the same family. obviously, but the Lynx are larger than Bobcats. I believe that Bobcats evolved from the Lynx and will mate in areas that overlap their boundaries.

Yes, you’re right. As much as i’d like to have a couple, I don’t think that i’d go through with getting them. They aren’t meant to be pets and it would be foolish of me to think that they could actually be happy in captivity. It’s just that I love the big cats and it would be a dream of mine to be around them to some extent.

I have seen the Bengals and they have beautiful coats. My ex girlfriend and I adopted a mother and her 5 kittens last year from a shelter. Those are the pics that I posted at the beginning of the thread.

She/we ended up keeping 3 of them and the mother and 2 other kittens were adopted by other people. It was a crazy experience, because the kittens barely had their eyes open when we adopted them and making sure that they were getting properly cared for. But, it was a very memorable and rewarding for both of us.

I’d probably get the cats from a shelter, when or if I ever decide to have any in the future.

This is my little Holly girl. She keeps me in good shape. She’s a border collie. Love her to death.

I’m really sorry about that.

A few months ago, I had to have my cat put down. It was more difficult than I thought it would be.

This is also why I have decided to stick with fish.

Lost the cutest Betta down the bathtub once. His name was Pinkie. …He was pink.

The bobcat is a species of lynx (lynx rufus). The pic above is a Canadian lynx, also known as the North American Lynx (lynx candadensis). The Canadian Lynx is bigger, more grey than brown, has a black tipped tail, furry soles, and not as spotted as the bobcat. Both have bobbed tails, tufted ears. The bobcat is smaller and does not have furry feet. There are several european lynxes as well.
