Peter Luger Goal!

Hey Guys,
As a reward to myself for hitting my numbers at work, I have decided to take my girlfriend and myself out to dinner at peter lugers in new york.
Has anybody ever been there before?
What did you like/dislike?
Any tips on the best way to get there from central jersey?
Thanks,
Mike

Congrats!!!

I love Peter Lugers. I can’t tell you how to get there if you are driving…I have always taken the subway.

The prime rib…awesome.

Bring cash. I still don’t think they take credit cards…they offer their own but I’m not sure how that works…you apply on the spot? Anyway, take enough cash with you.

Enjoy,
Mike

PS, I have to admit, as much as I love Luger’s…Michael Jordan’s Steakhouse in Grand Central is pretty damn good too. Just a thought.

Thanks alot!
I made two number goals this year for work, so maybe I will hit both.
I made a goal that if I hit 1800 one hour training sessions I would go to dinner at lugers.
My other goal is to hit 1930 sessions of which I am only about 74 away.
If/when I hit both, I take a shot at each and let you know what I think.
thanks,
Mike

Make it easy on yourself and go to Wolfgang’s in the City. The steak is every bit as good if not better, but the overall menu (sides, desserts, etc.) is definately better, it’s a nicer atmosphere, they take credit cards (unlike Luger’s) and you don’t have to schlepp all the way over to Brooklyn. It was started by the former head waiter from Luger’s.

And I’ve tried almost all of them in the City (Morton’s, the Palm, Del Frisco, Smith & Wollensky, Strip House, etc.). Truthfully, pretty much all the ones I listed are what I would consider to be “right up there,” but Wolgang’s menu (with regard to sides and desserts) just puts it over the top. It’s awesome.

make a reservation. you’ll probably be looking at a few weeks before you can get one. even more for a weekend night. especially this time of year.

Agreed.

I’m heading down to Carmine’s next week!

Favorite Peter Luger’s story:

Woman asks the waiter, “What would you recommend for a vegetarian?”

Waiter replies, “A different restaurant.”

PL’s is the best steakhouse on the planet.

Don’t plan on geting in until 2007 unless you made reservations in October and bring A LOT of cash–it ain’t cheap.

I always get a Delmonico. Go for the baked potato and the creamed spinach. Then cheesecake. Don’t worry I think they have a defribilator in the back somewhere. They’ll jumpstart you and your good to go!

PL’s is as old school as you can get. My favorite steak house. Others are good, they are great.

You really can’t go wrong.

You have made a good choice. Bring A LOT of cash, because they don’t take credit cards, debit cards, or checks. Have you made a reservation? It can take 6 weeks sometimes to get in. Trust me, it is well worth the wait. I ate at the location in Brooklyn.

I have seen the quote before that Harris447 put up, about the vegetarian lady, that’s hilarious.

It’s so good, even Tony Soprano ate at Peter Luger (in the show). If it’s good enough for the #1 Waste Management Specialist, it’s good enough for anyone.

ENJOY!!!

I was there about 3 years ago. Took me over 2 months for a weekend night reservation, and it was around this time of year. Definitely the best steak I ever had.

The crazy thing I remember is the steak being rare, almost like a tuna sushi in the middle, but there was almost no blood to be seen. It literally melted in your mouth. They also only serve like 2 side dishes, creamed spinach and something else I forget.

A rare steak shouldn’t bleed, because it hasn’t been cooked enough for much blood to come out of it (cool center), which is why the center is still red. Just like if you cut open a whole raw filet it doesn’t bleed. Usually M and MW steaks bleed a lot. WD steaks are fucking garbage; all of the blood in the meat is in the bottom of the grill.

Has anyone been to Il Mulino in NY? I was just at the one in Caesar’s in Vegas, and it was amazing.

Good Steakhouses dry age their beef or buy it aged. Might be the reason.

I went to PL’s last winter (during a bulk) and between my neighbor and I we had steak for 3 and creamed spinach, and I ate most of it. All I remember was A. how incredible it was, and B. how thankful I was for him driving there cause I had a serious case of food coma afterwards.

That was so nice of your boyfriend to do that!

Peter Luger is great. I went there for the first time last May.

Awesome beef. Just don’t ask them for a menu, or the red lights and sirens will go off signalling a “tourist.”

(Luckily, I went with a PL regular so I didn’t have to figure this out on my own.)

Yeah, Chad, I’m sure they would have given you an attitude.

Oh, yeah, fuck you PGA.
