PETA is just a bunch of lesbians.
Then again, that just means they like what I like.

They covered her naughty parts…there is no good in that.

Ohhh…no natural rubber is used in modern rubber products?

Rubber comes from, as wacky as this sounds, the Australian Rubber Tree. Which kind of goes back to this thread’s aforemention PETP. Now if you’ll excuse me, I do believe my Roast Beef Au Jus is calling me.

Exactly. The use of natural rubber has become fairly rare due the the lower cost of using petroleum based alternatives.
I think basketball should be banned completely along with every other sport and leisure activity.
They are just wastes of natural resources.
Hi guys,
I agree with everyone who is on the “Fuck PETA” side. They are such incredible hipocrits that it makes me sick.
Personally I love dogs, especially American Pit Bull Terriers. Here are some of PETA’s founder Ingrid NewKirk’s own words concerning the breed.
Note: I realize this isn’t exactly what the current discussion is about, but I thought it was a good indicator of how PETA really feels about animals. Sorry to hijack.
“Those who argue against the euthanasia policy for pit bull dogs are naive.”
“We can only stop killing pits if we stop creating new ones. Legislators, please take note.”
There are others, but these make me want to find this Ingrid Newkirk and show her just what “unethical” treatment is all about.
MikeKubo,
So, are you suggesting that it would be more “ethical” to just throw the cows hides away? I mean, just because the NBA switches to using a synthetic ball doesn’t mean that cows are going to stop being killed for their meat. Don’t you think it is more efficient and less wasteful to use every part of the cow that you can? Are you aware that the leather used to make basketballs for the NBA is from already slaughtered cows?
Seriously, it’s just some bullshit way for PETA to try to impose thier agenda on the general public.
This “treating cows inhumanely and torture” crap has got to be the most illogical thing I have ever heard! Think about it.
When you do whatever it is you do for a living do you do the best you can to make the most you can or do you do a poor job so you can be paid less or maybe nothing? Along those same lines, why would a farmer or farming corporation screw up a cow’s health when their own livelihood and well being is dependent on the cow being healthy? PETA and all who agree with them are mind-numbing pricks!

There’s thousands of uses for leather besides basketballs. So just because you don’t produce as many balls… it doesn’t mean the leather goes to waste. There are other items like:
shoes, jackets, couches, bags, interiors of cars, gloves, baseball mitts, baseball balls, caps, watch straps, my multi-cd case… etc.
A few hundred balls in the NBA won’t make any difference. Probably “saved” a couple of cows… if any.

No they don’t. They care about one thing: MONEY. If the meat is just good enough and the cow is just healthy enough, they slaughter it and it ends up on your plate.
Healthy, free-range cow = delicious meat.
Cow fed shitty grain, injected with hormones, and kept in a constricted environment = shitty tasting meat which is also unhealthier from the hormones and the killing procedure. (A painful death for the cow means that toxins build up in the blood from the stress response when its killed.)
So in conclusion: Happy cow = delicious & nutritious.

You can’t judge all people who believe in HUMANE TREATMENT just because of a few wackos who organized and made PETA.
That’s like saying all white people are trash because you got a few rednecks in trailer parks. Or that all muslims are terrorists because some deranged extremists blew up the WTC. Or that all black people steal because of some cases of looting in the New Orleans after Katrina.
It doesn’t work that way.

I cannot find a single point where Mike mentions that. Not one.
I have no idea how you came up with that conclusion.
As somebody who is eating buffalo for dinner right now, I seriously liked the PETA’s open letter. It made me want to reach out and hug a certain player famous for his Superman tattoos. After he washes and disinfects his horribly mangled hands, that is.
The letter isn’t real. No way.

Hi Bruce,
Well, he didn’t actually. But, he seemed to be suggesting that we kill cows specifically to make NBA basketballs. This is simply not the case. As I stated the leather used to make basketballs comes from cows that have already been killed for meat.
So, no he didn’t actually say it. I made an assumption, and yes I know what happens when you assume, and for that I apologize. I didn’t mean to put words in his mouth. More so to ask a rhetorical question. But, my point still holds true. Why not use all of the cow that you can, if you’re going to kill them for their meat anyhow?
Good training,
Sentoguy

LOL… “guess which side this couple is on?” (one minute in) …is that Vroom?
Are they fucking stupid? Not using a leather ball is going to prevent cows from being killed?
Damn, but that’s funny.
I’m on PETA’s side for the most part.
I love eating animals, but I’m all for treating them more ethically.
But I do also agree for the ethical treatment of all people first, since we’re all equal in my book.

Most peoiple believe in treating animals humanely (except PETA). Their animal shelter kills more animals than any other.
Don’t be fooled by PETA’s name. There is nothing ethical about that organization. They spread disinformation to raise money and try to grab political power.
PETA is considered the biggest domestic terrorist organization in the United States. I didn’t make this up either. Many law enforcement personnell tell me this all the time. They are in the same regard as al-queda.
