BANGOR, Maine ? As socio-political demonstrations go, this one was just plain cold.

Two members of PETA, the People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals, braved below freezing temperatures and snow showers to protest Wednesday outside the Kentucky Fried Chicken restaurant on Broadway. Aside from winter gloves, hats and boots, though, Ashley Byrne, 30, and Krissy Addington, 26, wore only skimpy yellow bikinis.

?We?re two chicks sticking up for other chicks,? Byrne explained.

The two PETA members have targeted KFC, Byrne said, because the company has refused to make changes in the way it slaughters its chickens. Byrne and Addington have led protests at KFC sites all across the country in recent weeks, including at an Augusta restaurant on Tuesday and at a Portland KFC on Monday.

?So far, this is the coldest [weather] we?ve seen,? Byrne said just after noon Wednesday, when the temperatures hovered in the mid-20s. ?But it?s worth it to be cold for an hour if it means bringing awareness to this abusive treatment.?

The Broadway KFC, which also includes a Taco Bell, has been open only for a few months. The day manager on Wednesday was not authorized to comment but referred questions to a company spokesman.

Rick Maynard provided this statement:

"KFC is committed to the well-being and humane treatment of chickens. We’re proud of our responsible, industry-leading animal-welfare guidelines. We buy our quality chickens from the same trusted brands that consumers buy in local supermarkets.

We don’t comment on PETA’s activities and publicity stunts, which speak for themselves."

I’ve got that same bikini in red.

So it’s not the same bikini?

Ha, I kid.

As for those two, as much as I dislike PETA, I give credit to these two for standing out in the snow in a bikini.

I would suggest that the lovely young ladies do something more to…distract me from walking into KFC.

Why target KFC? In Australia at least, KFC are not responsible for slaughtering chickens but buys them already slaughtered from the same companies that just about everyone buys their chickens. It seems like thats wat happens in the US too by wat that spokes person said.

But then again nothing that PETA does seems to make much sense to me.

I think that animals should be killed in the most humain way that is economically plausible (I wouldn’t mind paying and extra 20cents for a more humainly killed chicken,. But not $4)

If the chicken is going to die though, wat does a few more seconds of pain matter?

I think the breeding and raising of chickens is a much bigger issue both morally (because they spend a lot more time living then dying) and because it effects the quality of the produce and therefore our health.

I think I know where I’m going for lunch today…

Nope, it’s the same bikini. I beat the girl on the right up and doused her bikini in chicken blood.

boo hoo hoo poor chickens…wackjobs.

I bet those dumb bitches have pets.

There’s always some dumb bitch preaching about PETA while completely ignoring the fact that PETA believes housepets are victims of animal slavery.

Yeah, support the organization that wants to take your precious fluffy away.

Stupid broads…

are they also against choking the chicken?

You guys are tough and insensitive. Bully for you, but the PETA folks have a point. Caring about these things does not make you a nut job. Maybe being completely insensitive to other beings, does make you a nut job. Check out this video:

Protesting should go by order of importance.

I have a problem with protesting how we treat chickens when education, healthcare, and the level of poverty in EVEN the US is out of control.

Not to mention the rest of the world, instead of trying to save some chickens why dont they try to save some human children in any number of foreign countries.

Its ridiculous. People join PETA because its easy to be an activist when you dont have to leave the comfort of your community.
