I am interested in becoming a future strength/bodybuilding coach and was wondering if these types of certifications would get me started into that field, also where can I go from there? Do I need to take certain courses to be a successful trainer? Here’s the link. Thank you in advance for any input.
I’m a trainer in BC. Have been doing my thing for the past 3 years.
In my opinion Can-Fit-Pro won’t work for you at all. Most employers and people in BC use the base of BCRPA (BC Rec and Park) Personal Fitness designation. Even if you put out the cash for Can-Fit Pro most places will still require you to go and get BCRPA so just do that.
BCRPA Personal Trainer certification consists of three courses:
-
Fitness Theory (basic anatomy and movement mechanics) - 2 days (usually on a weekend)
50 multiple choice question you must pay to take to get this cert. -
Weight Training - level 1 (how not to kill someone in a weight room; I’m not joking, that’s all there is to learn) - 2 days (usually on a weekend)
There is a package you must complete at the end this call an ICE package. It’s not tough
but takes a few hours to get it done. -
Personal Training (the absolute basics) - 4 days (usually 2 weekends)
There is another more indepth ICE package and a 3 hour mixed type exam you must finish.
At this point you have all you need to be “certified” in BC as a personal trainer.
Doesn’t mean you know anything. Just means they’ll hire you assuming you’ve been taught something in these courses.
Personally, I worked 2 years at Fitness World in Surrey, then I set up a studio in my home to train out of which has been going well the past year.
If you have any other questions regarding training, the business of it, how to get started, what the best place to take your BCRPA courses and other local certifications that are actually worth something are, just ask.

Wow that’s exactly what I needed to hear. I’ll do a search on where to take the courses but if you had any recommendations as to the best I would take your advice. THANKS YOU!!
check out:
Everyday Athletes (Kim Bond)
Infofit (Andre Potvin)
or
Hilltop Academy
The first two are relatively the same price and idea. Hilltop take people and teaches them how to be a good beginner level trainer. It’s also a lot more money, takes 4 months @ 4 hrs a day (more like real school) but they cover a lot more. If you think you know your stuff, and just need the cert I personally went through Kim Bond who was a great teacher.
Another really good and well known teacher of the BCRPA courses is Donna Hutchinson. My training partner is currently taking his cert courses through her and I’ve taken other courses from her company. She always puts in that little extra.
Hey I am interested in becoming a strength coach as well. I would like to earn my personal training certificate and my c.s.c.s. can anyone please expand on the most recognized certifications and also which certifications are most marketable amongst our present day work force. Thanks so much
In America, it’s NASM, ASCM, NSCA and ACE.

What an excellent idea for a new topic.
