Personal Trainer's Xmas

So it is the beginning of the year and we all know what that means, right?

everyone wants to get in shape and get gym memberships

awesome for me. I’m a trainer at a gym that pays 65 bucks per contract signup, and today I hit 15 new members and 1 renewal this month will be sweeeeet!

anyone else raking in the cash right now?

Ugh, im my Gym there are around 15 personal trainers who would average about 140lbs … and they have people signed up to them !

I could NEVER ever do personal training, trying to get de-motivated people to do something would piss me off no end !

As far as im concerned, wanna lose weight… do more work eat less and you get paid 65 dollars an hour for that.

Funny you said that … that’s why I quit personal training at a commercial gym … damn fat cows want me to be Merlyn or something

haha, it ends up being basically no work for me, because you know they all stop coming by march lol

and contracts are paid in full upon signup, so i get paid for nothing!

but the ones that do show up and wanna be lazy, i give them to one of those 140 pund trainers that know nothing and that are out of shape themselves

i have two guys that are hardcore though, i dont charge them because theyre so committed

i’m not a personal trainer but being a upcoming senior on the football team and the strongest guy in school, i get all the questions in the gym. folks ask me if they can lift with me and i say yes, but they usually quit after one or two exercises.

folks talk a good game. they say they’ll be dedicated but when they find out it’s hard work, they back out.

you try to help some folks…

So you do sales as well as personal training? Or you work at one of those places that only does personal training?

My incentives aren’t quite as nice. And I have 10 other trainers to compete with. Frankly I don’t know why they hired me, as I’ve done only a handful of orientations so far. Hopefully that’ll turn around.

i do my best to help people, helping people reach their fitness strength goals is my passion

i read an article that said if everyone in america would work out for an hour a day, it would save billions in health related costs, on top of that, i like helping people improve their quality of life

BUT!

if you come to my gym, sign up, and show up 5 or 6 times and each time i can smell burger king on your breath then i’m not interested, sure i’ll take your money, but youre gonna get a basic training from me,

ya kno? garbage in,garbage out!

If you see nothing wrong with that statement, you’re in the wrong field.

And ye wonder why so many people rag on pt’s

You should be enthusiastic about helping people any try to motivate them. As a personal trainer its kinda in the job description.

Following the ‘Garbage IN, Garbage OUT’ mantra is really selling yourself short, maybe if you tried your best with all your clients maybe a few of those lazy SOB’s might recommend you to a friend or two; increasing your revenues. In personal training its all about attitude and how you present fitness to the general population, for people to return you have to make it fun.

Did you ever consider that maybe the reason people don’t come back isn’t so much as their attitude, as it is yours?

That could be somewhat true, but generally people try to make excuses not to go to the gym and exercise. Personal Trainer or not, the clear majority of people who go to the gym do not persist with it.

there are people that come into the gym 5-6 times amonth, are lazy and complain about evrything

i go out of my way, even breaking club rules to try and make sure they are motivated

all my clients can call me 24/7, with any question, even if they want to train after the gym is closed, my parents have a decent amount of equipment in their basement that i clearly make availble

i definitely know how to cater to people’s needs and goals, i’ve been a team captain of wrestling and football for more than one school, so motivating people is not a problem

the problem is when they show up and throw their big mac boxes in my trash can, ask me if we can cut our session short, or just dont show up at all

i’m a trainer because i want to help people that actually want to help themselves, i’m not a babysitter! i give people chance after chance but at the end of the day, there;s only so much that can be done,

thats why i give the contracts away, and if i see a trainee busting his/her ass i’ll train them and even give them a discount

so dont try to make me out to be some kind of an asshole! I’m nowhere near that!

im caking as well…I like the people who didn’t show up all of december then call me up yesterday like “j, you gotta fix me bro”.

I find that my clients who are the most consistent get the best results. Whether they backslide once in a while or not.

My clients run the gammut from high school athletes, office desk jockeys, overwieght housewives, and phsycho high fashion skinny women who want to be even skinnier. That list is from my favorite to train, to least favorite.

I always give free sessions out to my most dedicated.

If I feel a client is getting demotivated, I work out with them for one session. No uniform… hooded sweatshirt, wrist straps, gallon of water and my bcaa’s. That always seems to strike a fire under thier asses.

Bah, bah I say. Tomorrow I find out if I can get some capital to re-start my independent training in this great state.

When I get the money, THEN I will sing the praises of the NYR season.
