CT:
I have a training background in 100m and 200m sprinting. I find that I can perform relatively high reps (6-8) without losing speed/form at relatively high percents of 1rm as long as I am performing explosively. When i attempted tempo training my reps went down fast. Is this normal? Could an athlete that is more accustomed to doing explosive movements for prolonged periods benefit from slightly higher reps when ramping?
For example when doing 8 rm ramps I can ramp up to 250 in the bench before I start to grind. When I use 3 reps I can get to 265 and 255-260 when doing 6 reps. Could I be doing it wrong or could my body be just more accustomed to explosive training? Or could i be performing the rep wrong is a specific phase that causes this?
Thanks!
