Good stuff my friend.
Killing it.
killer, I always loved me some yokes. It made you realize many things as you are carrying weight across a room.
22.02.
1 log lift (clean once)
5 x 3 @ 90 kg
2 Standing db press (beltless)
5 x 6 @ 25 kg
3 chin ups (ng, green band, knee)
4 x 5
2 x 6
4 db row
5 x 20 per arm @ 25 kg (no straps)
Notes:
- great workout. Restored some confidence that I can still make it.
- fourth set was by far the best. Very smooth. In general it got a lot better after the first set when I started getting into it. First rep was close to a strict press, haha.

23.02.
1 deadlift
1 x 3 @ 162,5 kg
3 x 3 @ 155 kg
2 squat
5 x 5 @ 122,5 kg
3 seated hamstring curls
3 x 15
Sauna afterwards which was as relaxing as ever
Notes
- I forgot my weightlifting shoes and my knee sleeves. So I had to squat in flats for the first time in forever. Felt awkward. Left knee was also pissed.
- deadlifts were okay. Felt pretty heavy but it has been a minute doing them and I am exhausted from the week. The whole training week took a toll on my body, especially lower back
Great couple sessions…i always hated forgetting my lifting shoes, now I just keep them in my truck!!!
All my training stuff lives in my car.
The lock on my trunk is broken, so the door actually doesn’t close. No big deal since it doesn’t open while driving but it obviously isn’t lockable. Not detectable on first sight but I still don’t like to keep things in the car nowadays, haha.
DOMS are crippling. Today is only sauna on the menu.
The events have been released and it couldn’t have been much worse:
- Axle clean and press for reps @ 100 kg/ 220 lbs (60 sec)
- Frame walk for 40 meter @ 250 kg/ 551 lbs
- Deadlift for reps @ either 210 kg/ 463 lbs or 250 kg/ 551 lbs (60 sec)
4 sandbag carry for max. distance @ 110 kg/ 242 lbs.
Right now I would probably zero 3 out of 4 events. I only have some confidence in the axle. Frame ist just brutally heavy and deadlift is 10 kg above my best ever, no idea where I am at right now. Sandbag no idea. Never picked up such a heavy one.
The good news is that you’ve got a decent power clean that should save time over continentals and let you sneak in an extra rep or two.
No goofy turns with the frame walk!
You’re a big tall dude so you’ll be able to get your arms around the bag to man handle it.
looks like this will be a fun event ![]()
Huh? When did that happen? Haha, I assure you I can not power clean a 100 kg axle. I am confident that I can do a continental though. Time will probably not be my limiting factor at this weight.
Yeah I think it will be 2x20 m with a set down at the half mark. I am mostly worried about grip and also being able to pick it up in the first place.
Hopefully! I think with some practise I should be able to figure this out.
26.02.
Didn’t have a plan for today because Tim didn’t get to update things yet, so I figured I’d just see how the axle feels.
1 axle clean and press (Clean each Rep)
2 @ 56 kg
2 @ 66 kg
2 @ 76 kg
1 @ 86 kg
1 @ 96 kg
1 @ 101 kg - PR
2 @ 101 kg - PR
2 axle push press from the rack
2 x 5 @ 101 kg - might be PR territory for axle. Still comfortable.
3 strict press
5 x 10 @ 50 kg
4 banded chin ups
6 x 5
5 seated cable row
3 x 10
Notes:
- pretty good session. The cleans are freaking ugly but that was to be expected. The press however is comfortable even after the time off.
- Didn’t push anything to the absolute limit
- DOMS in the lower back, glutes and hams don’t make axle c&p any more enjoyable.
- was in a pretty good mood and could enjoy my training until my ex messaged me.
Video:
Maybe but you got them, that’s what’s counts.
Great PRs my friend. Well done.
(and you might want to practice those cleans a bit
)
Is a continental clean ever beautiful, really?
I got some really shitty news about the comp.
The sport around here is growing and the organization of the federation seems to grow slower.
The comp was booked out in 2 hours. I have a spot but they accepted 50 guys for the comp which now results in the following rule change:
The last 10 guys get eliminated after 2 events (axle and frame), 10 more after deadlifts and only the remaining guys go through to the sandbag carry.
This is a pretty shitty move. The comp ist part of the fibo (big fitness expo) in Cologne and getting there plus acommodation ist freakishly expensive at the time of that expo. So you invest a lot to partake in only two events of that comp.
It is pretty likely that I will be eliminated after the first two and definitely after deadlifts.
Any competition experience is positive. You will learn an awful lot even if you are eliminated after 2/3 events. It is frustrating news to hear at this moment in time but it will be worth it.
Regarding the accommodation, I’m sure you’ve looked into it already but have you checked out airbnb? I find they are usually very reasonable in Germany.
Not necessarily in case of mass events. Have you ever looked at the airbnb side in Munich during Oktoberfest? ![]()
It’s okay though we have booked long ago so in comparison it isn’t terrible.
I haven’t but I hope to one day as I’d like to do Oktoberfest. Glad you’ve got that sorted anyway and good luck for the event.
Where are you from? Book long enough ahead. I currently live in Munich so say a word and we’ll have an beer then.
Thanks man.
From his name I’m guessing Yorkshire England but it could be a clever trick!!
