Beyond grateful for your words, brother!
So things haven’t been going my way lately with training. I did have to take another couple of days off because of the sickness. I am currently feeling very under prepared for all the upcoming competitions because I had to miss so many sessions already or cram days together because of travel and 2 sicknesses. So yea… I don’t really feel peaked but I’m going to show up and give it my all regardless. Let’s hope things will fall together when it matters.
I decided to just mash some of the more important events together over two days (three if you count yesterday) and hope my back can take that, haha.
03.07.
I needed to try out shouldering a natural stone because I will do that for max weight soon and have absolutely no idea what weight to pick in that scenario. So the other day I scanned the wider area for liftable stones and now decided to pack a scale and shoulder some (in public like a god damn lunatic, haha).
I did one 60 kg stone, one 70 kg and got a 96 kg stone to the chest. That evening I decided to not risk anything and also didn’t want to exert myself to not prolong my illness again, so I didn’t try hard to shoulder that one.
04.07.
1 atlas stone over 1,20m bar
4 x 1 @ 128 kg
Finally getting the nemesis stone. I want to do doubles next week and then we will have to find out what’s possible in comp (not very much I fear).
2 14" axle tandem deadlift
1 x 4 @ 435 kg
2 x 2 @ 435 kg
One less than last week but it was the right call. I am not at full strength sadly. Still this gives us the opportunity to go for 6 in the final session and then ideally 7 in comp.
3 axle press (from the rack)
12 @ 100 kg - ties PR
8 @ 100 kg
6 @ 100 kg
8 @ 100 kg
Took it from the rack because of all the taxing back movements. 12 is a good result with the imposed fatigue. If we can get to 18-20 combined in comp (2 minutes cap), that has to give us a shot at a good placing.
05.07.
1 yoke into farmer’s medley (ca. 18 m each)
3 x 265 kg / 120 kg per hand
2 power stair simulation
10 @ 160 kg
5 @ 175 kg
4 @ 190 kg
3 sandbag carry
1 x 60 m @ 107 kg
4 seated btn press without back support
3 x 6 @ 60 kg
I am certain that what ever I have done for you, you have equally paid me back without even knowing it my friend.
09.07.
1 natural stone to shoulder
3 x 1 @ 96 kg
Went very well
2 atlas stone over 1.20m
3 x 1 @ 128 kg
Went very poorly. Wantwd to get at least 2 doubles
3 power stairs simulation
2 x 6 @ 180 kg
4 sandbag carry
1 x 20 m @ 131 kg
Then went to the lake because it’s fucking burning today!
11.07.
Leg and back DOMS are annoyingly
present. Not looking forward to deadlifts tomorrow
.
1 axle press (clean once)
13 @ 100 kg - PR
2 x 8 @ 100 kg
2 btn split jerk
10 x 1 EMOM @ 127,5 kg
3 lat pull down
3 x 12 @ s13
4 seated press (no back support)
3 @ 70 kg (btn)
4 @ 70 kg (regular)
Too heavy at this point. Probably put in enough work for pressing this week.
5a incline db biceps curls
3 x some @ 12,5-15 kg
5b 3-way-trap raises
3 x 12 @ 5 kg
Good last heavy overhead session but the overall fatigue is pretty damn high. Looking forward tp the pre comp deload.
12.07.
1 14" tandem axle deadlift
5 @ 435 kg
2 x 2 @ 435 kg
2 yoke carry
2 x 18 m @ 275 kg (as part of the team carry)
Yoke into farmer’s carry medley
3 x 18 m @ 295 kg yoke; failed the 128 kg p.h. farmer’s… multiple times…
3 sled pull (truck simulation)
3 sets @ very heavy (ca. 420 kg at start, 280 kg to finish)
Notes:
- the deadlift went okay. A 6th would have been a death grinder, so decided to opt out.
- the farmer’s fail was disheartening and surprising! I need to have another session of this in between comps! Otherwise confidence will be too shaken up

I do check in from time to time. It’s just so hard to keep up with life these days, though I look back fondly on a time when I could post here frequently without fail. It’s a joy to still be in touch over the years, even via infrequent forum posting. Your progress and own personal battles have been an inspiration to my own.
But I am asking myself a similar question. I passionately set out to turn pro in the sport when I was 17. I am 30 now and it’s interesting to look back on the last 13 years of competing and training at such an intense level. Wild how you slowly morph into a slightly different person on the other side of things lol.
It’s truly something special to have something you cherish so much, working tirelessly at it through all the wildness of life, and be able to look back and think of how you never compromised or second-guessed (I did both of those things haha, but that’s the beauty of it). We try and try and try and it’s a building of character that somehow represents the greater good of humanity. Work, adapt, and overcome. Troubleshoot some more. At the end of the day, my will to “sport” has languished for the time being, but I will get it back. Right now it’s health and family.
15.07.
1 plyo series (kneeling start + 3 hops over hurdles)
2 x body weight
2 x 20 kg
2 power snatch from the ground
4 x 1 @ 70 kg
3 snatch complex
3 x (power snatch + hang power snatch) @ 50 kg
4 axle clean and press complex
3 x (1 clean + 3 presses) @ 85 kg
So 3 cleans and 9 presses
Notes:
- gotta be honest: I’m not feeling good going into competition. Let’s hope 4 days of complete rest will correct that. I need to get put of this negative head space. That’s gotta be my focus. Not sure how to approach it yet.
If you believe in yourself even half as much as all of us believe in you - you’ll be set! We are all rooting for. You’re going to do great and even if you don’t win or do as well as you think you should - it’s an experience, you’ll learn from it, and it’ll be fun! Just go in there and give it everything you’ve got and know that you’re a beast and you’re awesome regardless of how it all shakes out.
Thanks a lot for your kind and encouraging words!
I really appreciate it!
Well, you should remain right, the competition was a lot of fun and also a surprising success - although deadlift and stone performance cost us a lot. I will do a full write up once I have all the results and details. ![]()
This makes my heart happy! I’m so glad you had fun and that you did well. I can’t wait to read all about it! High-Five!!
Thank you! I appreciate your support! The same goes for everyone following along - no matter if from way back or new to the party. ![]()
you cant just leave us with that. We want more details. LOL
haha so sorry mate! I ideally want the comp results to give placings and timings in my report. I might wait out today if they upload them but after that just go on without.
Okay here we go: 20.07.2024 - team cup competition
As you all know I didn’t feel too good going into this. I left no stones unturned (read: I was grasping at straws) to somehow speed up my recovery because it felt like my body was striking on me before this. But I showed up, accompanied by my training partner/ team mate, his grilfriend, one of my partners (there is two due to me being polyamorous - just to explain the weird phrasing, haha). The show was run incredibly well. I was very impressed! Thankfully it was set under the roof of a big steel company, so we were in the shade for all events, but the 30°C still posed a challenge!
Event 1: 100 kg Axle clean and press away for max. reps in 2 minutes
I set out to do 14 reps here and that’s what I did in my first go. Then my partner went and he got 5 reps. We still had some seconds on the clock so I forced myself to go again and grind out another 3 reps. That absolutely annihilated me tbh and my circulation was off and I was dizzy for a good few minutes after. Really happy with my effort and the result here! We actually reached a shared 3rd place! 17 reps with 100 kg ain’t too shabby for me, I am pleased, hehe.
2nd event: 20 ton truck pull for 20m without hand rope
We were in absolute perfect sync here and executed the strategy perfectly and to our huge surprise… Got the event win!! With 32.21 seconds. Honestly would have never thought we were gonna win this or anything. We also didn’t practice this together at all. Very happy!
3rd event: 400 kg Tandem axle deadlift for max. reps in 1 min
Where things started to take a turn for the worse. They decided to lower the weight by 30 kg last minute, which was not in our favor but this wasn’t gonna be our event in any case because my deadlift weakness was a huge limiting factor here. We got 8 reps and that meant 7th place.
4th event: Carry medley - 250 kg frame into 260 kg yoke for 20 meter
Redemption time! I did the yoke and it honestly felt perfect and easy. I just freaking love yoke walks! We got a time of 29,94 seconds and a 4th place here. Good performance.
5th event: 120 kg atlas stone for reps over 1,20m in 2 min.
NJail in the coffin for our end result but the point difference was pretty large anyway. We got 10 reps (2 by me, 8 by my partner). Once again my back/ deadlift weakness was limiting us.
Overall we got a fantastic 4th place, which I am very happy with!
I had a fantastic day, the atmosphere was super friendly, show well run and the support was great! It was super nice to share this day with my girlfriend and also my parents stopped by because they were on vacation nearby and my mum made custom “team Kjell” t-shirts, which was the cutest thing ever!
Thank you as always for reading and the support - I greatly appreciate it!
Now to fix this damn deadlift!
Congrats on the awesome performance! That tandem deadlift looks interesting to say the least!
The wait for that write up did not disappoint. It often goes unrecognized but given that English is not your first language, your posts on here are outstanding. Loved reading every part of this and it sounds like such a fun day. Nice to get an event win too. Well done mate. Salute
@freshyfresh @simo74 thank you fellas!
Yeah not exactly a fan of the tandem deadlift but with this bar it actually kinda worked out fine.
