21.05.

I ate WAY too much Sushi, trained late, was groggy and out of my rythm. I slept too little for a while now. This workout felt like garbage. I might see how it goes but I’m thinking about taking a deload or a bit of a reduced week next week to reset a little.

1 deadlift
5 @ 210 kg
3 x 5 @ 190 kg

Everything felt incredibly heavy and moved like crap. Still good to tie my 5rm PR on a day like this (although the last time I pulled it on a stiff bar). I’d like to get 5rm of 220 kg in the following weeks and then move into lower reps. Skipped the last back off because I was getting anxious about how heavy and bad the pulls felt. It is possible however that my top set looked extra worse bc I chose a completely different angle to film. That’s noob stuff.

2 box front squat
5 x 4 @ 110 kg
3 @ 110 kg

Not sure where to go from here. Either add light wraps, increase box height or stop increasing weight. Not sure what’s the most beneficial route for me when keeping in mind what I want to get out of them. Or maybe trade them for the jerk drives for a few weeks? Any opinions, haha?

I had the gym to myself and for the circumstances, this was still decent and fun. I’m in a good mood.

1 log lift (from the ground for reps)
110 kg or 130 kg

Will chose 110 kg

2 arm over arm vertical pull (like the old school strongman pulley stuff)
No idea on weight

3 stone to shoulder
110 kg

4 deadlift for reps with a “normal bar” (power, wl, deadlift?!)
235 or 255 kg

Will chose 235 kg obviously.

Hey, I’ll do the 3rd league show the day before. Seeing as moving events are the only ones I’m halfway decent at I don’t quite know what to think of the events but for me, it’s one of the few comps this year I can make in terms of travel and timing.

Yeah, same boat mate. Those events are as bad as it gets for me. I also dislike the host. But there aren’t many comps to chose from, so I’ll bite the sour apple, I guess.

Notes:

  • this was supposed to be a deload one and for good reasons. But with just 5 weeks to go, I can’t afford it. I will however not push super hard this week (see log today).
  • legs and lower back still super duper sore from Saturday.

Also do you have any idea how I would go about finding a ride share there? I recall you came from the Ruhrpott region, right? So not exactly a good fit but the cost of travel is eating me up.

Hadn’t planned on it so far but I’m sure if you’re having trouble getting there I may be able to help. I don’t want to promise anything before i’ve talked to wifey as if I’m away on sunday she’ll have to entertain the kid, but watching the 2nd league comp would be fun. I don’t live im Pott anymore, I’m near Mainz, a little under two hours from Steinmauern by car. Basically, if you can get to Mainz by train (9€-Ticket/Sparpreis?) we could take the car from here. Also, we’ve got a guest room so you’d be welcome to crash here if you’d like.

I wouldn’t really know how to go about finding any other kind of ride share there…

3 hand over hand vertical pull
I did 3 or 4 sets and I need a roll. The friction is nasty.

4 clean grip high pull from hang
2 x 5 @ 60 kg
2 x 5 @ 80 kg
5 @ 100 kg

Notes:

  • lower back felt stiff as a board today but without pain or discomfort. Just clear that this was supposed to be deload week. I kept stuff reasonable though with that in mind.
  • fun workout actually.

Edit: I thought I looked jacked in those videos and I like it. Seems all the eating was worth it.

Are high pulls a good idea as an accessory for stone extensions?

Nice! Yes you could probably increase the box height a bit.

I’m no strongman so take my 2cents with a grain of salts but the high pull is really supposed to be an upward motion, with lots of quads and hips involvement. When I do bag/stone extension it’s really more the back

I have legit never done one before, haha. Couldn’t speak to it. But getting strong and explosive is bound to be a good thing

Valid points. I don’t see how I can really recreate the stone sensation without a stone though. Really need to get my hands on one. It’s been years …

Ah I thought I recalled you doing them during deep water.
I had a similar thought process - can’t be wrong being strong. I mean a 130 high pull should hopefully give me a 110 stone extension :sweat_smile:

Ah, clean pulls for deep Water. Start of a clean vs finish. But no one ever got too strong, haha
