ok this took a lot of time and a lot of sitting down (really putting the athlete in ‘strength athlete’) but I did it. I am really proud of the work I did. I was quite sure I would skip today with how I felt this morning (well all day) but I didn’t and I moved the log like it weighed fucking nothing despite the fatigue!
Less ouchie. Biceps still most ouchie. Exams over (for a short period). We had a few drinks last night and unfortunately I got to bed later than planned which added to the sleep deficit I’m in. I’m getting old. Good evening for the soul, bad for the body.
1 oh squat
4 x 6 @ 70 kg
2 power jerk
Last warm ups were 105 and 117,5 kg
1 x 4 @ 125 kg
Well technically it’s a PR but I don’t want to call it that. I did a 6 x 2 and a 1x3 + 3x2 at this weight.
3 paused front squats
3 x 5 @ 107 kg
4a single leg rdl
4 x 8 @ 30 kg
4b aleknas
4 x 16 @ 2x5 kg
5 concept 2 rower
1 km baseline workout - 3.35 min (1.43/ 500m average)
@aldebaran told me that’s actually pretty good. I have no way of knowing tbh but I beat my crossfit friend.
I had a quick glimpse at the afterlife but not as bad as the assault bike. In general I feel like these last week have done some good for my fitness.
Notes:
not really happy with my top set performance. I psyched myself out a little and let me be intimitated by the weights (the bigger weightlifting weights don’t help here. Might have to try and book the other room if possible, whixh has the 25s). No reason really to be intimidated because this is well within what I should be able to handle. The set was a bit shaky. I will do even better next time and make better decisions leading up to it.
with the exams done, I’m hoping to feel a little less stressed which will hopefully regulate sleep and recovery to my advantage.
Well I am told that being tall and heavy actually helps with the rower.
Fun fact: As far as I am aware both Laurence Shahlei as well as Brian Shaw held/ are holding world records in the concept row sprint categories.
In case they are unfamiliar: Both are shw pro strongmen. Shaw weighing up to 200 kg, Shahlei maybe in the 160s
I should make it a rule to watch my (overhead) videos the next day for the first time. I’ve noticed a trend where I rate them much less harsh. Coach confirmed that this is the case for a lot of guys, himself included.
Well you’re tiny and light so of course it’s the other way around… My last 2K was 7:16 while being cripply sore and very tired and I “never” do cardio: I have an advantage there
I’ve been feeling off these last two days. Restless, uneasy, kind of aggressive. Sleepless but not necessarily tired. Tried to nap a couple of times but no dice. Hopefully the weekend and next week being a short week will help me calm down a bit. Probably still stressed.
I had an intense back and forth wether to skip today or not. Tired and overall fucked + pressed for time. But today is a light day and I’m not that sore anymore. Ended up toughing up and just getting it done. Stayed away from caffein before.
I thought you’re supposed to lose your gains with cardio? But yeah, decided to enter the Crossfit games. Weight class: Small cow.
In all seriousness, I am mostly doing this to improve my blood work and test results as well as be more overall fit and lastly more competitive in strongman. Although it’s still my static strength by a long stretch, that is holding me back there.
For me this is a sign that I am getting stronger and recovery is OK. Making these lighter workouts count and hitting the reps without anything feeling off is magic.
13 km hike today. Went to the nearest castle ruins. Nice view down the valley from there, otherwise nothing overly spectacular but good trail through the forest. The weather turned on me and I came to regret my decision to leave my jacket behind.
Hopefully this won’t affect tomorrow’s training session. Legs and all felt good during, now I’m a bit tired.
Next week is only going to have 3 sessions due to scheduling issues. Might end up being an advantage for recovery.
pretty awesome session. Felt good going in. Even pull ups went pretty smoothly!
managed all the reps on front squats this time but it was a real tight squeeze and all of the third reps were horrible grinders. Interestingly high sticking point
spent the rest of the day out in the sun. We had an incredible weather change, which is also why I went shirtless cause I was sweating through my shirt during warm ups.
