Per aspera ad astra (strongman Koestrizer)

Berlin and Munich. They were very different culturally, but the feeling was the same

I definitely plan to seek out German coauthors in the future so I have an excuse

Yeah, definitely picked two extremes there, haha.

Probably both, and a flood of Instagram pics from tropical beaches and ski resorts … which are decidedly NOT British

Well, I was being a tourist after all :stuck_out_tongue_closed_eyes::stuck_out_tongue_closed_eyes:. As someone who hates extremes, If I like the extremes, there a good chance I’ll love the median more

Hey! Some of our beaches have sand!

But do they have sun for more than a month :stuck_out_tongue_closed_eyes::stuck_out_tongue_closed_eyes:

Across a decade? Maybe.

See- lack of sun = bad lighting for Instagram pics

I’m sure you spend enough time on fitness forums to understand the benefits of good lighting

Fitness forums - yes. Instagram - no.

18.02.

I layed down for a nap before the workout and actually fell asleep for 10-15 minutes. It was wild!
Even though I say this jokingly it did make a huge difference to how I felt. With my “current” sleep schedule (aka insomnia) I find myself appreciating @alpha 's work even more. I could write an essay about how much I admire that guy but that’s kinda unrelated.

1 log lift (clean once)
3 x 8 @ 91 kg

2 squat (6 revelations /w a softer wrap - by pl standards)
Warm ups
5 @ 100 kg
3 @ 140 kg
1 @ 165 kg

3 x 3 @ 172,5 kg

3 strict log press
3 x 10 @ 66 kg

4 vertical jumps
5 x 3

5 aleknas
4 x 12 @ 2x5 kg

Notes:

  • even with just one clean, I’m struggling with my breath on log sets of 8. Bad conditioning but also the log is restrictive on the breathing.
  • had my normal wraps. Used them without pre stretch. Comfortable but with decent support.
  • squats moved so well that I’m not even gonna bitch about having a hard time hitting depth on some of those reps with my hips rn. It wasn’t the weight, warm ups were even higher. But I’m not faking it, I am sincerely satisfied with my squats!

Looking strong! Hope things are on the up, or, at the very least, not getting worse.

Thank you! Well… I am feeling better than last weekend and the start of the week. I had some talks with good friends, therapist and some other things that at least calmed me down. That isn’t much nor am I doing fine, I’m not gonna lie but it’s important to appreciate the little things, eh? Like today’s squats.

Those log presses look like they’d cause a lot of sheering forces on your back as you remain in an incline essentially. How’s the back holding up?

Wait strongmen have to worry about squat depth?!! Thought I could ditch that and carry on going high!

@Voxel that’s true. I don’t think however that pushing my head through at the top would change that fact significantly. The log does require a good amount of lean back. and the most compromised position is the bottom, not the top in my opinion. I try to push my hips forward to combat this to a degree (by breaking at my knees). This log technique I’m currently using is relatively new for me but it gives me a lot more stability than what I was doing before.

The back is holding up relatively fine. Some achiness is going around in my body right now (like wandering from spot to spot) and the sacrum area is definitely subjected to a good amount of stress currently, as well as the mid back. I am adjusting to the frequency but since my back didn’t feel good last week, we took this week a little bit easier.

@alex_uk You get a free pass, haha. I personally am gunning for parallel. With my build, I have a hard time going deep enough to an ipf standard or something like that but as long as I am consistent with my own standards, I’m good.

@Voxel how much I feel those sheer forces is also largely dependent on my brace. I have gotten better with that. However if we get into high reps and multiple cleans, things go to shit.
If you want an example of a log lift that I felt in my back very much, go back to the video of my last comp and see the last one I grinded out. That didn’t feel good.

With this I am satisfied

With this, I am not.
Both from today. I was just inconsistant and my hips were tight.

Fair enough, slim but noticeable difference there, what’s the judging like for stuff like that in strongman?

We don’t squat in competitions, sadly. I would prefer it to deadlifts.

A lot of the time in competition a squat will be set up as seen on wsm in recent years. If not or even in that case, if the technology available allows it, it is judged similar to powerlifting. So top of the knee below the hip crease.
I feel like I met that criteria barely in the first picture (or maybe at the same height, I am not a good judge) but definitely did not in the second. That’s why I draw the difference.

Ah that sucks given my squat to deadlift ability!

Haha the good old dive bomb off the squat stands!

Boo!
