Amazing work and really felt the release of frustration with that PR. You have been through a fair bit over the last few months and it all takes a toll on us mentally and physically. To see you focused and hitting PR’s again is really good.
@mortdk thanks buddy! The deadlift and I have a complicated past
@mr.v3lv3t watch out for the next post ![]()
@simo74 thanks a lot mate, couldn’t agree more! I am super relieved and it definitely helps me mentally to make progress in the gym

Notes:
- fuck yes!!!
- warm ups felt off. Outcome was apparently not affacted
- felt amazing to be able to do this. Bonus for doing it a day after deadlifts
- who knows… with a bit more training and a bit of nose tork (used none today) I might have a shot at 130 kg. Won’t try for some time though.
- Left shoulder feels it a bit now to be honest (the one that I hurt a few weeks back)

Nice! Way to pull man
Hell yeah!
Awesome push press Mate.
Went up like a feather, great job.
Thanks guys

Forgot to log saturday’s session.
20.07.
Trained at the club for my last prep session. Back is holding up from my little injury two weeks ago. Still hasn’t disappeared though.
1 Log lift
2 @ 103 kg (clean every rep) - too impatient, didn’t stick to the plan
3 @ 103 kg (clean every rep) - ties PR, as planned
3 @ 103 kg (clean once and press away)
2 conan’s wheel
165 kg in plates (forgot what the apparatus wheighs… And that triggers me, haha) x 2 rounds
185 kg in plates (") x 2 rounds and a bit
3 Car deadlift
up in doubles
Ended in one decent single
Notes:
- good prep. Let’s go!

Great job, good luck for the competition! I’ve seldom contributed anything, but I’ve been reading your log pretty much from the beginning and seeing you progress in the sport has been great so far.
Thanks a lot @dicksharpe!
Outstanding PR’s Sir, great work! Best of luck for the comp
Go smash it at the event brother, good luck.
Thanks guys
@yorkshireiron, @mortdk
27.07.19 - competition day
Competed at the German cup in Hermsdorf, my third 2nd league competition this year (and total).
Going in I was in the best shape ever and at my strongest ever. Body felt good minus a small back injury I picked up 2-3 weeks ago but it didn’t really bother me.
event 1: 100 kg log lift for reps in 6 seconds:
Struggled to get one rep in.
(In training I have done solid sets of 3 with 103 kg. What is it with me and this damn log?!)
event 2: Car deadlift for reps in 60 seconds. They said they increased the weight for this comp but only listed it as 290 kg(?)
0 reps - as expected.
event 3: conan’s wheel 330 kg
0 - couldn’t pick it up.
(I have practised this event but what I didn’t expect is that the pick height wasn’t adjustable! So a lot of the taller guys were screwed - I can’t do a 330 kg zercher squat unfortunately)
event 4: 14 ton truck pull
Terrible start but eventually broke inertia and pulled it through in a terrible time
(I have done a truck pull once and with similar weight and it was really easy compared. I just fucked up big time at the start and approached it like a moron. Should have practiced this in some way.)
Summary:
- this was by far the worst comp experience yet. I couldn’t do what I have done in training. Worst of all I couldn’t get my head in the game. I was defeated after the log and ready to pack my stuff and drive home.
- I still think that I had a good prep but now it is back to the drawing board and find out how much I can improve
- This was the last comp that I planned for this year and I really hoped to end comp season on better terms. It is what it is though. I can only go up from here. I may not have the most talent for this sport, I gain strength slowly compared to others and I am not naturally gifted in this - but I am one thing: notorious. I won’t stop showing up!

Mate don’t feel sorry for yourself. You did the training, you put it on the line and entered the comp. And you got through it. I for one am proud of you and motivated by the effort, grit and determination you show.
Well done my friend.
@simo74 Thanks mate, feels good to read that.
I’ll probably need a few days before sorrow turns into hunger but I am looking forward to this off season.
In general I think I am going to wing it for 1-2 weeks and do stuff that is fun, need to watch my back anyway. Then it is game on. I already know what I want to do for my deadlift and I have a rough idea for squats but the rest isn’t super planned so far.
Good effort anyway. Real shame about the Conan’s Wheel; you’d think it would be adjustable somewhat.
This is the second time you’ve been disappointed in a log event now right?
Well done mate for just showing up and having a crack. I am sure with your recent PR’s and determination you will smash a comp soon.
Bad days happen my friend. They often become valuable learning experiences. Keep your chin up, you’ll do better next time
Thanks guys, I’ll come back stronger!
@mattjp : Yeah I don’t know what it is with me and this log (we always use the same in comp). Since I can’t change the log and excuses don’t matter I guess I will just have to get stronger
Wondering if it’s something to do with lacking warmup in comp or a psychological aspect. But getting stronger would sure solve it, too!
