People strike back at the "healthcare" industry

With all those edges I hope you have outstanding health care

What is the life expectancy in the U.S.?

I 100% agree! I like to watch crime/punishment/murder docs/shows and there’s this great one on…Netflix I think called world’s toughest/worst prisons. The host goes all over the world and visits each country’s most horrendous prisons and some of them are awful. He actually stays in the prison for a full week as a prisoner! Check it out…But back to my point, after watching some of those shows and hearing the inmate’s experiences, spending 23 hours a day in an 8x8 cell for 365 fucking days a year sounds like horrible torture. At least with the death penalty your suffering has an end. Imagine getting a life without parole sentence at 18 years old and having to live in a little room for the next 60 years or so. Fuck that.

My ONLY problem with life without parole vs death penalty sentences is the fact that US, the taxpayer, has to spend ~ $40,000/yr feeding and boarding that inmate…and take that dollar amount times that 60 years. Ouch. If I ever got handed a life without parole sentence, even being in my early 40s I’d still strongly think I’d prefer the death penalty because 25+ years is still a very long time.

I was in a cell for like 2 hours once and was looking for a way to hang myself!

I was in jail for approx. 12 hours, once during the day, the other overnight, over stupid traffic tickets I angrily crumpled up and threw away. They got me on the warrants for those. I was young and stupid and it was my fault. But it’s pretty scary how ā€œcivilizedā€ society devolves once you are behind bars and among others arrested, all for actual crimes, right there in the cell with you. Those were the two times where actually being very big and muscular WAS a benefit because they took one look at me and decided to go bother some other chump. But like you see in the crime shows/documentaries, when they walk you into the general holding cells where there are 20, 30+ people they immediately begin sizing you up. Sadly I saw several guys who did not get to eat their shitty sandwiches they passed out every few hours. I watched people just take them from others and look at them like ā€œwhat you gon do?ā€ It’s an environment where doing the honorable thing[standing up for others] goes right out the window and you just mind your business.

I wish they had a mandatory ā€œScared Straightā€ program for ALL inner city public schools. I really do think if they had those kids spend the day in those cells, among actual criminals, that it would have a strong deterrent effect on a good number. Even if not a lot of them, even keeping some out of jail by deterring them from crime would be worth it for society as a whole.

That’s a good show. Did you see the episode where the host actually had to argue against being a guy’s ā€œwifeā€ for the night?

Honestly… i don’t think the Scared Straight thing works. I saw juveniles as young as 12 doing carjackings, robberies, stealing cars. They simply have no concept of repercussions. No fathers. No values. Hurt my heart seeing that shit.

They also have no concept of freedom and dignity.

Amazing, both @marine77 AND @zecarlo are right…with regards to no concept of repercussions/no daddies/values but they also have only ever lived with the freedoms they grew up with. They have never been told when they can eat, piss, sleep, etc or had to be treated like a ā€œthingā€ vs a person.
You’re probably right though, @marine77 , because I too know that young people are stubborn as shit and even if exposed to that environment, they would not believe that ā€œit could happen to meā€ and they were ā€œtoo tough/hard/badassā€ to get caught, lol. But in those crime shows I mention I watch, man, A LOT of them say they wish they could tell their younger selves to go to school, hang with good kids, etc because to not do so ensures a life of pure misery. Having fathers/disciplinarians in the house would be a great start to fixing the generational prison trend. So would truly valuing and demanding educational excellence. I wonder how different things would look if these two items were really changed (which in reality will sadly never happen…change is difficult)?

@jshaving yes I saw that episode! It’s a great series, I highly recommend everyone watch it, Worlds toughest prisons! Its really cool to see how much variation there is in the prison systems of different countries. From shitholes in central America to the European prisons where you can come and go from your cell and have a huge variety of amenities. In some of the Central/South American prisons the actual inmates run them! At night the guards give them the keys and get the fuck out!

I’d think they’d feel complete ā€œfreedomā€ given their actions but it’s not true freedom.

Ya man… Honestly people that have never worked in an inner city have NO idea how far gone most of these kids and many adults are. A true American tragedy.

I agree. When you see educators, community figures, etc say ā€œI give up!ā€ most people think they are just quitters, or lack conviction with those kids. But if you’ve ever been around/among them (I grew up in a ghetto majority minority area in a big city myself), you completely understand them throwing in the towel because its very frustrating to watch the cycle repeat, over and over.

What is the solution? Liberals have failed them utterly.

Lol, get rid of the liberals, but I guess ya can’t just go around shooting folk. So, I have no idea of a practical, achievable solution. My solution? Never live in the heart of a large urban city. It seems that the further you go away from the center, the better life gets. It just sucks that you don’t really get to ā€œliveā€ in that actual city and enjoy its parks, museums, theatre, and other attractions without making a long ass drive. But for the increased relative safety, lack of crime/worrying about my shit getting ā€œjackedā€, etc I deal with it

Cancer spreads… and it’s a matter of principle to me, as well. Liberals are useless turds, but I would do anything I could to help their; black Americans (I refuse to capitalize the b like pandering Shitlibs do) community start to move ahead

There is nothing that will be done so there’s no point in thinking what could be done. I sometimes engage in this pointless exercise and think of things that might make a difference but in the end, the one thing that I believe would be the definitive way to end the cycle of poverty and criminality we see in the inner cites, and in poor white communities as well, is making it much harder to get welfare. I would say to eliminate it all together but a civilized nation should have a safety net.

Have them wear orange vests and go pick up garbage around schools to earn the welfare money. Imagine what young girls in school would think when they look outside and see a herd of single mothers on welfare picking up trash. I’d even make them wash the teachers’ cars. But none of this will happen.

Everyone thinks they’re too good to do things that would build character and communities…like picking up trash. It’s arrogance, apathy, entitlement and sloth.

But then you also have poor Natives on reservations and poor whites in Appalachia and in trailer parks across the Midwest and Southwest, where crime, poverty and addiction don’t seem much better than what blacks and Latinos face in urban areas. I think you’re right about urban areas, but moving can’t be the only solution. And I don’t know that politics is entirely to blame - urban areas are liberal but the other groups live in rural red states.

Unfortunately when you are tied to a great career/job, and thus have to stay in the city/area, moving is the only option. White flight seems to also be a perpetual driver for moving further and further out into the suburbs, but I won’t get into the reasons why it occurs because we all understand the primary driving force behind that. Here’s a hint: Never has the phrase been exclaimed ā€œhoney, I think we might need to move again and further out from the city. A huge population of asians has moved into our area!ā€ Said no one, ever.
