Further, it’s considered poor form for a previous POTUS to weigh in publicly on current events in a way that sounds critical of the current POTUS.
Best of both worlds. If Obama says something you whataboutism him for talking out of turn. If Obama doesn’t say something you whataboutism him for not speaking out.
Zeb would be proud!
Fair points. I wasn’t there.
I understand what you are saying and I agree with your sentiment. But understanding the crowd dynamics is important to understand so that such things can be prevented in the future. Understanding what and started the violence is important. Had there not been violence, likely said anzi asshole would not have gotten into his car and sought to murder. If the nazis started it, it will give us more legal cause to prevent future public rallies. We can use this example to say, ‘your group cannot be trusted to not insight violence.
Without it, we cannot legally say you cannot gather ‘because’ nazism’. They can and will gather and probably more so now. As much as we despise their philosophies, it’s their legal right. Hate groups are allowed to hate and they are allowed to gather, peaceably. We want there to be a peaceful end to their gathering. We don’t want violence.Denying them their rights won’t prevent the hate.
The hate and the eradication of hate is a ground level game and we all have a part to play.
As above, I don’t think it’s possible to get this information.
I’m not saying they shouldn’t legally be allowed to gather. I’m more than happy to let them continue to gather in public (god knows I love getting the Nazis ID’d). I’m saying society as a whole (govt included) should CLEARLY be on the side of condemning Nazis for existing.
This isn’t a subject where I’d like to see people mind their own business. I’d like to see society (as a whole) publicly and openly shame these people until they either don’t exist (matter of time) or they don’t leave their mother’s basement anymore.
Edit: For reference, in the same way I would want society to condemn terrorists for existing.
I disagree Pat. For better or worse society now has the ability to fuck with Nazis a bit better which will discourage them from organizing in groups like this. Some of them lost their jobs and others made posts crying like little bitches about the cops. We found out real fast just how tough the basement virgin crowd was. Just look how many showed up in Boston afterwards.
I expect the Nazi pussies to go right back to 4chan and reddit where they can circle jerk each other without having to be fearful of their neighbors knowing what they are. When you can’t get hired because everyone in the country has a picture of you with a tiki torch and a Nazi symbol that isn’t going to want to make that group come out in the open much
I don’t disagree with your sentiment. I am more than happy to shove these people into their little holes that they never crawl back out of. I share your emotion.
But it’s an emotion. Trust me, if I find myself among a group of white supremacists, I would likely be very scared and certainly remove myself from said crowd as fast as possible. I am not black or Jewish, but I am on the list.
A pragmatic analysis of what happened, in which people can peacefully demonstrate without the threat of violence and murder, I think that needs to be examined.
People act very differently in groups than they do individually. People tend to do things in a group that they wouldn’t in normal life. If you’re in a group of people who has rocks, you will be more likely to pick one up yourself. If people throw those rocks, say at police, you as an individual may feel enabled or empowered to do the same.
It’s really the violence that is killing us and it’s getting more common place. There is no place for it in 2017. We’re moving backwards.
You’re on the list twice (at a minimum)–once for being Catholic (which puts you on the KKK’s list), and once for being of Hispanic heritage (and thus on the white-supremacists’ list).
And I am an immigrant and English was not my first language.
