Patch2's Adventures

Lovely pics again. Yeah my plans always get moved around too, but the challenge of being organised can sometimes be fun. I had a kayak bug once (love the water anyway), never got the kayak though, so only did it a couple of times. It’ll be nice to hear your kayak adventures, glad to see someone take so much advantage of the outdoors where they live.
I’ve just done a little of bit of Kayak research so far, and my oh my, I didn’t realize it was so complicated. There are different types of kayaks for different types of water? Of course. Apparently the great lakes require sea kayaks? I’m going to take the throw the baby in the water approach to learning and read up on it after I’ve done it. I’m booked for the next 3 weekends, so it’ll be a while. Hopefully before it gets too cold!

Now this is stuck in my head.

My hike experience: I’ve learnt the hard way what my “fun” limits are. Easy flat trail around 15km. Bitch hard trail in mountain peaks - 5-7km. That doesn’t mean I won’t push myself once in a while, but I will do some knowingly and prepared. Jot down your mileage, type of trail and such in a log and write your impressions. Was it too long? too short? did you bring enough water? eventually you’ll have learned enough to prepare yourself easily.

In terms of geography, the lakes in Canadaland are about a 17 hour drive West from Montreal. An option would be to fly to Toronto and rent a car.
Your times are envy producing as well; ropes can be so pretty.

Logging is a good idea, I should probably keep a paper one along with the maps and such from each trip. I don’t know my fun limits at all. I’m so new, that at points everything is hard and at points it’s all fun regardless of the difficultly level. Eventually it’ll normalize, but until then it’s probably worth noting the trend.

I’ve only ever hiked near bodies of water so enough water wasn’t an issue. I’ll eventually have to figure out my own purification system though. This time we used a microfilter plus a steripen. I’ve been vaccinated for everything known to man, but there are still lots of critters and TB is super paranoid about getting sick. Walking with him is occasionally like taking a parasitology exam.

Something I do need to work on that I just remembered, is picking up my legs when I walk. I sounds weird, but with the pack I need to start remembering to bend my knees to take the impact. My shins and feet were the only sore parts of me. It wasn’t until I complained about it with like a mile left that I was told to semi march.

This week was a sprint with work so last night I fell asleep around 7. I did manage to wake up in time for yoga and benching. Nothing exciting, but I went, so that’s something, right?

Bench
45x5
65x5
85x3x5

Schedule resumes Monday.

Hiking sounds pretty nice, actually (even with the risk of parasites and sore feet!) It’s good to get away from technology for a while.
Good luck with your recomp. Cutting carbs tends to work for me.

Holy inches lost!!!

I think you read it wrong dear, those are goals not progress!

For sure!

Yeah, so far I’ve been just cutting calories I think it’s time to adjust macros.

good for you on making it back to the gym - in terms of water and parasites: I was told beaver, moose and other such woodland creatures carry a bunch of intestinal parasites and have no qualms if shitting in the water. Make sure your filtering system is perfect or carry a camel pack or water supply.

oh, my bad.

well, good goals then!!!

Really? Interesting I wouldn’t have thought of sea kayaks for the great lakes. Then again I’ve only been on the sea type and don’t know squat about any of them. A couple of the peeps in my diving club kayak, I’ll get some tips from them when I see them.

Ick intestinal parasites, yes please take care.

lemme know if you need some help with this - I’ve been known to be able to make them macros feel so good that they ask me to stay for breakfast - and even make me some pancakes!

Yeah, the number of beavers in the area make water purification a must 'round here.

Well the great lakes are fairly large and choppy, so I think they’re more ocean like. Still haven’t learned about the kayaks though. I think it may be on hold until warmer times, water and cold doesn’t seem fun.

Well, I’ve got protein at least 1g per lb of body weight, but what’d you think I should aim for regarding fats and carbs? I don’t think pancakes are in my future.

It turns out that trying to keep my summer schedule during the year is just way too ambitious. I ended up crashing out early twice this week, I fell asleep completely dresses around 7 and slept until 5! Now have no motivation what-so-ever to do anything at all. I even skipped out on my walk this week, and that’s something I really enjoy. So, I’m going to have to revamp.

I like my morning schedule, but the evenings are going to have to be modified. Also I haven’t been home a single weekend this semester, and the next few are booked up. So, planning anything for friday night or sat and sun needs to be flexible. That means all I’ve got is M & W PM to lift. I think I’ll stick out SS for the rest of the month, but after that I need some change. Maybe I’ll work on some BW movements? Any suggestions on a 2 day a week lifting plan?

Oh, and thanks for reading my rambles!

yep, SS requires one hell of a lot of sleep… at least it certainly did for me.

have you thought about 5/3/1 (just making sure i get in first with that heh heh).

are the great lakes salt lakes? they have kinda sorta (lolz) waves, don’t they? i wonder if the sea kayak deal is mostly about the waves or the salt water or both… i guess you want something bigger that is less sinkable and a bit sturdier in the water…

Have you seen this??

Yeah, I’m just not getting my sleepy time in this semester. I’m stuck with a 6-9pm class on TTh and morning meetings. It makes nap time impossible.

Maybe next summer. I’m pretty sure it’s a 4 day a week program. I think I’m going to do this guy. Gravity Iron: No Weights Needed

Day 1: Bodyweight routine
Day 2: Deadlift
Day 3: Off
Day 4: Bodyweight routine
Day 5: Deadlift
Day 6/7: Off

I can easily throw DLs in after spin.

They’re actually fresh water, which makes them AWESOME. There are waves, not really big ones, but I have seem people trying to surf on the lakes.

If all I had were 2 days a week, I’d do a full body routine both days. Maybe throw in some complex finishers at the end or 20 mins of treadmill.

try to find a few minutes a day for a walk, in between all the busy. Even if it’s only 20 mins, you’ll feel like you did something towards your end goal.

you obvi didn’t read between the lines on that one, Professor…I’ll give you one more chance…
