Patch2's Adventures

That training thing that the log is supposed to be about, I did some of that. Not well at all yesterday, but I did it. Fuck, I was up at like 3am yesterday and just couldn’t go back to sleep so I went to the gym at 5 as usual. It was totally off though. When I don’t get enough sleep I become a menopausal woman, so I walked a bit and stretched and foam roller through hot flashes, coldness and the strong desire to do ab work through hitting people with the bar.

So then I went back at noon. Which feels insane. I really don’t want to change my morning routine, I’ve got the week planned out well, and am in the habit of being up at 5 and gyming from 5:30 to 6:30am. I can’t stay later because I’ve got morning stuff to do everyday, and I have evening classes from 5 to gym close. So if I want to lift on T&Th it has to be at lunch. Even though I was just at the gym. I figure the only people who are aware of me being at the gym all the damn time are people who work there and people who are also at the gym all the damn time, so whatever.

The workout sucked ass anyway, and there wasn’t even a hot ginger to stare at. Speaking of things to nom on, I’ve got another date with tax guy! He’s nice, he’s way bigger then me though, which is a little odd. I’ve stuck to the 5’6 -5’8 175ish range for the last 10 years, this guys 6’3 and 225, I’m not used to feeling like a midget. I’ll get to start breaking out the heels though.

On the breaking out the heels note, my knee is being odd and I’m not sure why. I’ve never had knee issues, but it’s a little achy and kinda just stopped working last night. I was walking and it just kinda gave. I had to catch my self on the railing, arm strength for the win. Is running going to give me knee issues, because I don’t want to run bad enough to forgo walking. I’ve got pretty substantial hips, is that an issue I need to be aware of, or just something I heard in cosmo?

re: running and hips and knees, I know there’s something called the “Q angle” or something, having to do with the angle between your knee and your hip or something. Haha, I actually have no idea what I’m talking about, other than there MIGHT be something to it.

My wife’s got wide hips and she doesn’t tend to get knee issues with running unless she’s taken a long break from it. Joint supps to help out, and maybe a knee sleeve or something when you run?

joint issues, joint supplements…

fucking old people~

Hey Patch: I was going to mention Q-angle too–judging by your (hot) avi, I would guess yours is a little larger than average but not grossly so. I think if you take the running slow and counteract that force with extra hip abduction/ER exercises and lots of foam rolling, knees should be fine for the long haul (aside from an adjustment period). Make sure you stretch the calves and hamstrings extra too.

Have fun on your date! I can’t wait to hear how it goes  I’m lifting my dating ban and have one tonight as well…except this guy is shorter than most guys I’ve dated, so I’m already sad to see the heels go.

That’s a bit more then I knew. I already fish oil it up, is there some other joint supplement I should be taking?

Checked out the link, going off that, it’s probably just that I haven’t been paying any attention to warming up for running. My quads have been pretty tight, maybe they’re just tracking my knee a little oddly do to that? I’ll pay attention to rolling out my quads, and warming up for running.

Warming up to do what most people consider a warm up, I feel so special.

I lifted smelling like icy hot yesterday, and was considering getting some of the horse stuff that you talked about in your log, so maybe I should move over there too?

You won’t go wrong using that stuff. It is magical!

& I would most definitely take you out on a date. Heels or no heels.

Abduction is slutty girl machine right? I don’t know what ER stand for. So you and Inky basically said the same thing, warm up for the run. I feel a lot better now, thanks!

Confident short guys don’t really care if you wear heels or not. Heels don’t go forever I just put them aside more often then usual. That means tomorrow we’ll have the details in your log?

Once my icy hot stock pile runs out, I’ll give it a try.

Giggity.

Should probably actually post the workout, even if it was full of sad. Turns out the gym is super crowded at lunch, no room at all to jump rope and knee bothering me. Rowed instead, 2000m in 11 min, kinda did intervals of fast slow, whatever the fuck I wanted.

DB Walking Lunges 20lbs x 12 steps x 5
Knee is tracking fine here, soon I’ll be able to move to 25lb dbs.

Push Ups off the bench 6x5
I had a long break in between my first set and the rest. I wore a Michigan shirt and the gym was crowded and so got a 15min instructional on how Rich Rod was misunderstood. Ah, old people, they just don’t give a fuck. He walked up to me, tapped me on the shoulder and just started talking.

RDLs 95x6 115x4x6
My grip is going to fuck me here. I can barely feel the 115 in legs, but don’t think I can hold onto any more weight. As is I had to switch to a mixed grip and spend the whole time on keeping a hold of the bar. We’ll see if straps will soon enter my life.

Side raise 2x25
I’m going to have to tweak this, it’s not easy to do that many reps, but I feel like a bird flapping my arms. Do not like.

No wall sits, my knees don’t like them and the football dude made my timing off.

I skipped Bootcamp this morning for sleep. I feel guilty I skipped, but physically way better for getting the sleep in.

6’3 and 225!! He sounds perfect! Enjoy your date.

I turn into a complete psychopath on no sleep. I cry about everything all day. They said I couldn’t renew my library card until I brought in proof of my new address, yep, started to tear up. No sleep makes the brain go wonky.

Rich Rod will find his way in Az. Not everything was his fault. He left some nice talent.

Nice work on the pushups.

I know, he’s fun to look at, but up close a bit intimidating, and don’t tell anyone, but the last time I even kissed anyone new was three whole years ago. 0_0 So that ads a layer to my awkward.

I’ve been know to cry at a commercial or two. And last night totally got lost at the library. Those things are huge, and I don’t pay attention to things well.

Yeah, I basically told the guy I think every story has a lot of sides and I don’t really know enough to condone or condemn the man.

Thanks!

My meme didn’t attach to my previous reply, try again!

^Brilliant! It’s actually working.

I felt bad about skipping this morning so went for a bit.

Looooong warm up

30 lb KB swings x 3 x 25

Then I played with the RDLs a bit. They felt so off yesterday. Today they rocked! I just played a bunch but the highlight was 2 sets of 5 at 135! Woo!

Ideally, keep the bar against your legs during RDLs. It makes you really drive your hips back and stresses your hamstrings more.

I actually found my self doing that naturally for the heavier ones, but wasn’t sure if that was ok, glad to see it is. I had totally forgotten about that.

Thanks!
