The desecration of corpses would be a propaganda coup for ISIL.
Not that I support the desecration of corpses idea. Theyâre dead, who cares?
But on the other hand, you know your really PC when you give a shit what the terrorists might think of youâŠ
It serves no purpose and plays right into ISILâs metanarrative.
You know YOUâRE really dense when you donât understand how such an act would only serve to feed ISILâs already robust propaganda apparatus.
I said I didnât support the notion, FDR. Itâs gross, for one, two it serves zero purpose. Unless they had some highly communicable disease like the plague, then I would support sending the bodies back to Raqqa.
My only point is that we should not adjust our behavior based on the way they may perceive it. And I am not really accusing you of it. I just used your post to make that point, because obama is doing such a thing. Posturing based on what message it sends to the terrorists.
The French should waste money shipping corpses back to the enemy who just carried out the atrocity in Paris? Why? So they can be enshrined as martyrs? Their bodies should be disposed of at sea a la Usama bin Laden.
Not ISIL, those that are currently neither with us or against us. Like it or not, propaganda plays a crucial role in counter-terrorism and counter-insurgency campaigns. Calling a spade a spade may be emotionally satisfying, but it is often counterproductive in these contexts. ISIL must not only be defeated militarily, diplomatically, and economically, but in the realm of propaganda as well. Their metanarrative is among their greatest assets. Undermining it and drying up its reserves of potential recruits is essential.
You missed what I was saying. So, nevermind.
Yes, absolutely I agree that controlling the information is critical to defeating ISIS. I have been for cyber counter-terrorism from the beginning. I also suggested we lock down the money, take out their communications, and hacking and destroying any web pages and twitter accounts and what have you. And what the fuck is twitter doing allowing these assholes on their network anyway??
So, on this we agree.
I am not, however, worried about provoking them. That ship sailed along time ago. The best message we can send now is that if you are a terrorist, we will kill you and take your land. The more you do it, the more we kill you and take your land. This they understand.
We should not behave in fear of upsetting or provoking them. Whatever is necessary should be done, if they like it or not is not germane. They want the war with America? Okay, we can give them what they want. They will not feel so glorious when it comes though.
Russia just gave them a touch of pay back the past couple of days. Biggest bombing raid yet.
I donât like the Russians, but I welcome them in this fight. They are willing to do what we are not. They arenât afraid of upsetting terrorists or would be terrorists. They will just kill them all and not care.
I toast their efforts with Vodka.
