Pacific Rim

on a similar note, seeing the trailer for Rim on the big screen with the big speakers was pretty erserm.

Pacific Rim was fucking awesome. Will see again, must been seen in 3D.

Just saw it again tonight. It’s still amazing.

Funny how everybody is saying how awesomesauce it is in here but it tanked at the box office.

Even AngryJoe loved it and whatnot. I guess nerds do not have that much money splash against the likes of Monsters University.

PACIFIC RIM WAS AMAZING.

I loved it. Even though it was full of cliches I was always on the edge of my seat. You actually feel despair when the kaiju show up, the mechs are amazing oh god it was soo good.

Yep same here. Well we saw it together with a friend and we all thought the same thing.

Word of warning to everyone, don’t watch Grown Ups 2. Don’t do it. Grown Ups is actually better than Grown Ups 2, and not just because of the curse of the sequel. Ah, dang it.

Was planning to see GU2 this weekend.

Well there’s always The Heat, with the fabulous Sandra Bullocks.

I understand now…you and I are diametrically opposed on movies. Lemme guess…your favorite movie of all time is th eone I hate the most and the movie you hate the most is my favorite movie.

I would need to see Eva Longoria walking in to the movie holding a bag of weed a bottle of baby oil and wearing only a t-shirt and panties…with Sofia Vergara waiting with seats holding a sign saying Free Blowjobs…before I went and paid to see either of those Grown Ups movies.
The worst part is knowing how bad it’s going to be, like movie D-day. I went into that fully expecting what I got, and knowing that at no point was it going to get better than it had been, I grieve for those who had known no better.
This is the Thing. I’m almost positive that Adam Sandler is pulling a Eddie Murphy on the world. He has a contract for so many flicks and it does not matter he will get X amount of cash and he just does not give a fuck. This ass had me laughing to tears all the way up to that Fuseball movie. Then it was done. Its like is saying Fuck you America eat me. I’m getting paid.
There are maybe two movies that Adam Sandler has been some way involved with that I enjoy, they are Punch-Drunk Love and The Wedding Singer. I very much dislike anything he’s directed or written the script for otherwise, my very young self used to like Billy Madison and Happy Gilmore, but I think I’m done with those because of the whole idea of Adam Sandler now.
The only two movies Sandler’s done that are worth a shit are Billy Madison and Happy Gilmore. Everything else has been mediocre at best (Wedding Singer, Big Daddy, Waterboy…), and unwatchable at worst (Zohan, That’s My Boy, pretty much anything after 2000). He’s a pretty good dramatic actor though.

Saw Pacific Rim tonight and thought it was good for what it was. The special fx were bananas and the story wasn’t as mindless as I expected.

From the trailer and plot summary, I also had low expectations.

But based on this thread alone, I went and saw it in IMAX 3D. I was very pleasantly surprised. The most immersive 3D I’ve ever seen, and I really enjoyed the homage to the Japanese style, with the focus both on the external action, as well as the internal experience, and just the right amount of “weirdness”.

I mean, there was some bad dialog, and some cartoonish characterization, but overall I was very impressed.

As far as expectations go. All I heard was Del Torro was making a film based on giant monsters fighting giant robots and I was sold.

I’m tempted to say that those are on purpose.

Mako is obviously on purpose; Rayleigh I don’t know (could just be bad acting on his part), while Pentecost is just supposed to be the movie-stereotype of the old veteran/badass.

The two comic scientists are obviously on purpose, and meant to rekindle memories of those crazed Japanese scientists in just about every fucking giant monster/robot anime, ever.

Those two scientists made me think of what R2D2 and C3PO would look like if they were people.

HA!! Damn spot on.

It just gave me that feeling of those old 60’s Godzilla movies. It was a good cheesy time at the movies.

Is this a thread about Asian Anal? If so, I’m all for it.

I was in on this thread early on… Looking forward to this movie… JUST watched it way after it came out.

This movie, straight up, sucks balls. Soooooo poorly edited…

What a pos sci-fi shit crap attempt. So glad I didn’t see it in the theaters…

^^You sir, are not cool.

I know a lot of people complained about this movie. I saw it recently and had low expectations, but thought it was good action movie. It blows the Transformer movies away imo. That’s how mech action should be. Not a bunch of fireworks going off around the battlefield synchronized.

It was better than Gravity. True story.
