660 is fantastic! Hell you should see the looks I got when I was asked how much I’ve deadlifted and replied 585 sumo! (and here you are kicking my ass by 75 lbs!)
Great job.
Though I, for the life of me cannot let people get away with that BS. It’s almost impossible for me to understand that it’s not worth the time to persue it even deep down I know it’s not.
Nice lifts bro, good luck with the 700. Im chasing that myself.
You also handled that situation much better than I would have. I hate even talking about lifting weights with anyone else than our main crew at the gym. People are just so stupid it’s amazing that they get along in daily life. Whenever people ask if I lift or compete, I just say no to avoid the discussion.

No kidding.
The wife dragged me out this weekend with a couple of her friends. One of the women’s boyfriends walked over and asked me where we work out.
I kind of mumbled about how we were in from out of town and just kind of awkwardly tried to redirect the discussion knowing all to well what would follow if I engaged this guy.
Unfortunately, one of the friends overheard him and told him we compete in powerlifting.
He then proceeds to pull out his phone and show us a 2 year old not very impressive picture of himself flexing in front of the mirror and telling us how he got up to 260 but never squatted or deadlifted b/c of knee surgery in HS.
We just kind of looked at each other. I mean, what do you say to that?
What was classic was later when he asked my wife what kinds of “numbers she throws up.” The look on his face was priceless.

There is this one guy who lifts at my college rec center who talks about being a power builder. In the words of my friend Travis, “Powerbuilding is an excuse for bodybuilders to be fat, and powerlifters to be weak.” Awesome. I love it when people say to me after I tell them I am a powerlifter, “you don’t look very tan.” Then I normally get mad.

BTW, I meant to tell you I have had the much coveted 1000# DL conversation.
It was in a bar in Chitown about 15 years ago.
My friend saw an old HS acquaintance and the guy asked him if he still trained. My friend mentioned he did a meet recently and then this guy proceeds to tell him he deadlifted 1000#'s in a “lift for cash competition” this summer.
We were like, “Wow, that’s a ton of weight. You must have been in PLUSA and everything. When did they publish the results? What did you weigh?”
He then proceeds to tell us @ 240 and explains about how it wasn’t really that big of a deal and that they don’t keep any records or submit the results to PLUSA.
We then ask if he has ever heard of Ed Coan because he just lifted more than him at a similar BW.
He gives us a blank look and says, “Never heard of him.”
We just turned our backs to him at that point.
Akin to the absurd conversation you got dragged into, it’s just one of those things that don’t warrant any further attention.
Shit, to be honest with you, I don’t keep up on all the weight shit. I tell the judge table, they load it. The meet was at Westside Barbell back in Jan. I think they are 100 lb plates. Below is a pic of Big Tim Harrold about to attempt a little over 900 lbs (notice the bar). He didn’t get it, but I know he’s got it soon!
Theres one guy at my gym who believes he can pull 600lbs off the floor because he can do a 2inch rack lockout with 700 something, but doesn’t because “he has a bad back.” Even I have just turned the other cheek on this kid, and I normally call people out on that kinda thing (even though I’m not that strong, I’m not dumb by any means).
