Orlando Terror Attacks

Negative.

It did not take SWAT 3 hours to respond, it took 3 hours for the order to be given. I was a SWAT tactical Commander for 8 years in a major city. Once the shooter was contained in the bathroom due to the 3 officers engaging him, and forcing a hostage/containment situation, then the dynamic changed. This was a fluid situation , not helped by the asshole calling the police to express his allegiance to ISIS.

Unless you have actually been on an entry team or have experience in close quarter battle, then you really cannot criticize the decisions made. Those of you with military experience know there is a chain of command, well, the police have the same thing. Orlando PD and Orange County SO have active shooter protocols and they followed their training, saving many lives. As i stated, once the shooter was contained the situation changed.

For those of you talking about the amount of ammo: On a daily basis, I carry 8 M-6 magazines (240 rounds) and 4 pistol magazines ( 68 rounds) with another 10 M-6 magazines in a backpack. Now that’s a lot of weight for a 20 mile ruck, but, to load a duffel bag with 20 magazines, drive to the location, and walk across the street is nothing.

As far as being being well trained, no, he wasn’t. The club had (according to the media) over 300 patrons. Take a look at the diagram. After making numerous entries, I can tell you this was a kill house with exits placed too far near the entrance with no back exit. A perfect place to trap people. If he was trained ( and not fired upon by the responding offciers, thus breaking his mindset) he would have had a 90 % kill rate.

If you are interested in taking steps for awareness due to an active shooter, this thread contains some good information:

Take a close look at the back of the club building, if he had not been forced into a confined space, and, was able to secure himself on the main floor, then the death count would ahve been higher:
