What brand of oral thermometers are you guys using? The ones at target or CVS are all store brands which I don’t really trust the accuracy. I’d rather buy it locally than order from online. Are there stores you can typically find a good thermo at? Thanks.
Really, no one can tell me what oral thermometer they are using? I went to all the typical stores around here; they all have store brands thermos(CVS, Walgreens, Safeway etc) and the reviews online say theses are horribly inaccurate…
I bought a digital Walgreen’s brand. I don’t know the accuracy specs on it but now you have piqued my interest in checking that out.
Yea I mean if the cheap digital thermos are off by +/- 1 or 2 degrees it’s pretty worthless for determining thyroid status. The stop the thyroid madness website addresses the issue somewhat; they say old mercury thermos are the most accurate and to look for them in antique stores( what?!). I’d rather not invest in some $50+ professional thermo. The doctor I go to now uses the type they press against your forehead. Looks expensive. Not sure where to go from here.
Point acknowledged regarding accuracy but for me, I am watching a trend more than anything. I started at 96.1 to 97.1 with my AM temps. Now after supplementing with Iodoral, my morning temps are running 97.9 to 98.1.
I doubt the accuracy issue is +/- 1.0 degree but more like +/- 0.1 to 0.2 of a degree.
As long as you’re using the same one each time, you can get a decent baseline without spending an arm and a leg. A good thermometer will set you back $30 or more for the ear or forehead readers. Check Wal-Mart.
