Oral Surgery: Wisdom Teeth

I had mine taken out long ago. I had an extra one on the top right side of my mouth.

I thought I was tough so I did novacaine only and skipped the gas. I was a dumbass.

If you get it done take the gas!

Before I was discharged from the Navy in 1972, I decided to get a cavity filled as part of my benefits of serving two years in hell aboard the USS Hancock (CVA-19). I made an appointment and was advised by the dentist that it was Navy policy to remove wisdom teeth before any other dental work would be performed. This was because “wisdom teeth always cause trouble.” I went along with this and had the wisdom teeth on my left side removed. No problem. I was given a mild painkiller pill after the removal and made another appointment.

A week later I went back and got another dentist who started to remove the bottom tooth on my left side. I felt something slip and he said “OH God damn.” I knew I was in trouble. He finally extracted the tooth after accidentally cutting my tongue. He stitched up the hole he left and elected not to pull the upper tooth. He gave me Darvocet and a bundle of gauze. I bled most of the night and hurt for several days. I hurt so bad that instead of going back to have my stitches removed, I removed them myself with a small pair of scissors. I got my cavity filled by a civilian dentist after my discharge and still have my remaining wisdom tooth. It is doing JUST FINE and the other teeth probably never needed removed.

I would get another opinion.
