I’d go with an Acer though, depending where you get it you may need to do a few upgrades like RAM, that and keep a USB on hand. (flashdrive w.e.) They dont have CD drives but if your into that retro stuff you can buy an external one
This would be good for me to hear too. I’m thinking about getting my kids each one for christmas this year and would love to hear some opinons about them. I’ve seen the Acer ones at Best Buy and thought they looked good. And the other post that andrew mentioned had a lot about the Asus Eee PCs. Anyone seen any other ones?
why not that? my dell laptop ate its third hard drive and i gave up on it, got that exact one from best buy for $200 bucks. i dont need it for classes/school/anything and at 200 bucks its more or less disposable to me. i do alot of commuting so i can watch movies on it just fine, its fast enough for my needs, has ample memory, etc.
i got a USB CD drive for it for 11 dollars on amazon too.

EDIT: Corrected for kerley
They are only 6 and 8. That’s why I thought these would be good for them. They won’t be using them for any kind of hard gaming. More educational type games and just learning how to use a computer for school work.
Good call Kerley, I’m sure no one knew I was really asking SSanville73. Forgot that you had whored youself out to the forums. I’ll have to double check all the threads right before I post incase you’ve managed to sneak in your gif of Hayley. You have some devious plan that involves your avatar. I’m not sure what it is yet but I’m on to you!!!

Perfect then…for about 300 bones you can get a decent one. No upgrading neccessary and when they spill the grape soda on the keyboard you can at least comfort yourself knowing that its not one of the regular 1000$ laptops. Getting them each their own is a pretty good call too I see you know what your doing.

(GOT YOU THERE KERELY! OH AND SAY HI TO BILLY!)
Yeah, I’m not crazy enough to get just one for both of them to use. It’s either going to be one for each of them or none. One of them used their own Christmas money to buy a DS and it’s been a nightmare ever since (both are boys, BTW). Thanks. I will still like to hear anyone else opinion of different ones, though.

EH! Still managed an '08 out of it. That makes my subjective TMUSCLE age…(COMPLEX CSALCULATIONS) … 9 months older than you. But hey look on the bright side! 2010 is the Year of the n00b or something or rather. The shame of 09 is almost forgotten with people like you redeeming the class.

Yeah that fucker is cheap, but one day it started beeping and never stopped.
Needless to say I lost all saved porn vids and pics (I’m old school).
EEE Pcs are pretty sweet. Especially if you were to add RAM. I have a full laptop with some bells and whistles since I had the money but I used a netbook for 2 years and wish I could go back. The size and battery life is under rated. The different positions and angles you can hold a netbook and lighter weight are so nice and the battery life is very nice because you can move around and stuff. My laptop is heavy and lower battery life (3 hours) so it gets pretty annoying. The screen is nice but after using a netbook for so long it doesnt mean much.
Get a pair of headphones because the speakers usually arnt to good. Gaming is also very limited.
