This is an interesting topic. This past week I have hit a wall. My HIIT cardio sessions came to a crawl. My weight sessions lost intensity. I was doin cardio in the A.M before work and weights in the afternoon after work. I was doin this on 2100 calories and 4-5 hours sleep. I decided to take a few days off from training and supplements (less my protein shakes).
After reading through this thread I realize that I was not suffering from over-training, but from not incorporating the sleep and food necessary to maintain my training. If I work harder I need to sleep more and eat more to support my training.

You cannot “overtrain” in 4 sessions done on 2 days.
Overtraining is the accumulated fatigue caused by CHRONICALLY under-recovering between work sessions.
Bingo.
Overtraining happens over a period of several months, not a single weekend.

I agree, though if you have been training close to your limit for a long time (a year), and then push it a little more, you can get overtrained within a few weeks…
I did this before, however, usually it does not take much to bring myself back into balance.
One thing i wonder, is when i have overtrained, i usually feel it in my legs first, i dont get the doms in my legs, but my legs just start feeling heavy, and its like a lot of work just to walk up a couple steps… anyone else experience this…
