His point that comes through from what I’ve read is, it’s not all about profit. Which clearly you are concerned about, playing devils advocate here so I would just leave it be. Plus he said to fuck off already .
probably too late, but Crossfit seems the way to go these days
pricey gym memberships
$4000 in licensing/year
equipment is pretty cheap
real estate demands aren’t as tough
I was getting and answering alot of question about owning and opening a gym, on another thread, so I sent people here, so if you want to read great, and if it’s questions great. Lets just leave the second gym out of it, it didn’t happen due to political reasons, not to worried about it, as I’m currently trying to purchase a building for my existing gym. This way I’ll own the building rather than paying rent, and I’ll gain more space. I know it wasn’t named ‘‘Owning your own comercial gym’’ Thats basicaly what it became, and rather than starting a new thread, if needed we’ll use this one. Latter
What’s your monthly electric and water bill come to in a gym like this that is open 24 hrs a day?
Ontario is the highest hydro in Nortrh America right now, so thnkfully it’s wrapped up in my monthky lease 6500$, but thats coming due next year so I’m a little worried my landlords going to want to re-negociate, this is part of the reason I’m shopping around for places. I will say though that just because it says 24hr, very rarely is anyone there from 11 at night to 5 in the morning, and the lights are on a sensor so they are off till someone steps in. I don’t think thats the answer you want but it’s all I got.
I pay a flat rate 6500$ a month for 5000sqft that’s fucking nuts all by it’s self, but atleast it includes everything. One bill nobody thinks about is Bell, I pay them 1000$ a month, mostly because you cant split cable TV anymore, need a reciever for each TV ( treadmill) plus phones and computer ( wy fy) fucking grand. We bring in around 20 grand a month, and it costs around 15 to run. Alot of money flipping through my acount each month, I just dont get to keep alot of it.

My place clears about 5-6 grand a month, more in Jan. and Sept, but I break a lot of rules that would make me more money, just because it’s what I feel is right, I don’t charge initiation fees, and I don’t lock members in, they can join and quit at will. I also don’t make any money off my trainers, as long as they’re qualified they put they’re name on the board, and start getting clients. Other gym owners tell me I’m nuts on these two things, and that I’m loosing lots of money, but I hate gyms that lock you in for life, and it’s hard enough making a living as a trainer without handing over 30% of your money, plus trainers in most gyms are like car salesmen doing pushy salesmanship on members. Late reply here. I just wanted to say that I don’t see contract lock-ins as amazing money-spinners. They bring in some extra revenue from the customers who cancel their gym memberships immediately, but the people who leave their contracts run and run are going to do that regardless…
