Open Carry Legal in Michigan!

I think that’s a great idea Headhunter, er I mean Clip. I can’t imagine anything bad coming of it. You should probably get some deadhead stickers for the rear window of your car too.

thats what I was thinking - its either going to deter a fight or escalate one a la Cold War for example.

lol. so dumb.

or you’d think “wow, the chance of me catching a pair of .45’s in my chest really isn’t worth the hassle of going for the dude’s wallet”

not that i open carry, but if you saw my macaroni ass walking around with a glock 30 on my hip, are you really going to try and take my wallet?
for arguements sake, assuming I was going to attack you, I’d be more inclined to attack with a weapon myself. Also, I’m not sure how law works but if the case is that you have to counter with a force equal to or less than what you were attacked with and you kill a man, you’ll go to prison even if it was self-defense.

Check local ordinances too. OC is legal where in the city where I am, but through my work as an intern at a local PD I can tell you that the officers will stop and possibly cite you for creating a disturbance due to the panic that will most likely be caused from doing so. Also you WOULD get a citation for carrying a pistol within city limits as it’s against local ordinance.

Remember that just because state says it’s ok doesn’t mean that it is 100% legal.
This. Police can and will stop and question you wherever you go, and for good reason, I might add. Just because it’s legal doesn’t make it a good idea.
And I am sure that you have all your shots and your tag is squeaky clean.

I bet your masters take good care of you.

we went from stealing my wallet to pre-meditating that you’re going to attack me? i think you are over exagerating the situation just to make a point.

if you are OC’ing b/c you know there are certain people that want to attack you on the street, you got bigger problems than a city cop and the DA’s office, lol

use of force law. you can use deadly force to stop deadly (or percieved deadly) force

Open carry makes me a little nervous, I’ve thought about it and went CCW. Main reason is I’m not trained to defend against someone trying to take my weapon, not that this can’t happen with a CCW but if you’re doing it right no one knows you have it. Unless you have a police style holster that snaps over it would be to easy for someone to walk up behind you and snatch it, then you’re fucked. Just seems like more trouble than it’s worth to open carry IMO.

Here are a couple of Michigan specific resources you can reference…

Yup. I don’t get it either, and I’m the pro-gunnest mothereffer around. Here in Mich, it’s CPL (concealed pistol license). If CCW/CPL was not legal, then I’d probably open carry but it would get you LOTS of looks, like at the mall.

And how about carrying an AK slung over my back - is that legal?

(BTW - anyone who owns a gun and is not a member of NRA and/or GOA should go fuck themselves.)

Hey hey!! I just applied for my CCW license 2 days ago. Unfortunately the Bersa Thunder 380 I bought has been jamming up on me. Looks like it’s time to trade it in for a revolver.

Everyone is wanting to only give me $150-175 trade in value on it. Anyone know of a good revolver to look for? Something that costs around $250 used??

For $250 and good, it’s going to have to be well used, and you’ll have to really look around. Anything Ruger or Smith and Wesson will be gtg.

OR you could just check out the Ruger LCP. It’s a .380 as well and probably a hell of a lot smaller then the thunder. Of course I would personally take the opportunity to find something with a bit more knock-down power than a .380 while trading in. As for revolvers, it depends on what you can/want to handle. There are some pretty solid .357 mags out there, and a couple .38’s. Whatever kind of revolver you get, I would recommend going hammer-less for CCW as it won’t snag on your clothes on the draw.

I’m a bit limited in my knowledge of some of the more specific brands/models of revolvers, but I think Ruger usually makes pretty decent ones, but the triggers could usually use a lot of work. Otherwise check out S

I bought a book on firearm laws for all 50 states and open carry w/o a CPL is in fact legal in MI. Not common though.

…no doubt.

OC is actually legal in all but 7 states…

What the hell, SC is one of the states that DOESN’T allow open carry? SC is so pro-gun though, it’s not even funny. Seriously, how many states have “no sales tax on firearms/ammo” weekends?

Also weird that Texas doesn’t allow OC either.

Elano - just get a Glock. It’s rally the best deal out there. I looked at them all, shot most of them and decided on a Glock 23. I’ve got SIGs and HKs but I really trust the Glock to go bang.

Don’t let money be the determining factor in protecting your life.

Taurus is shit. The American Rifleman just did a review on a bunch of 380s and only ONE out nine of the guns had no malfunctions! It was a Rohrbaugh. While a 380 is better than a knife or a gun I feel better with 27 rounds of .40 on my ass.

Definitely a cultural thing…don’t even bother. We’ve had this conversation many times with people from other countries that do not have a history of freedom in so far as gun rights are concerned. It’s just like the many, many things I don’t understand about other countries…and I probably never will…not having been immersed in the culture myself from an early age.

Yeah I know. We’re trying to get that changed. In fact there is a bill before the state General Assembly to do just that. However, the bill was poorly written and asked that we as citizens give up certain freedoms, like concealed carry, for example, for the “privilege” to open carry. For that reason, SC Grassroots Gunrights lobbied to have the bill rewritten or killed in committee. It’s not happening this session.

As far as the 2A holiday, that is working it’s way through the legislature, as well, to become a permanent holiday. That one may happen before this session goes to recess in June.

Read up on DETROIT on Wiki and then tell me if you’d feel safer carrying a gun or not.
