I agree with your point about it being larger than a city, so maybe a more reasonable thing would be to have like an Ottawa to Toronto and cities in between cell. I am sure people could make the trek once or twice a year either to of from Toronto especially if there was a T-mag contributer guest speaker or during the SWIS symposium etc. These things can be worked out but we will get no help from T-mag until we establish one and start talking about it.
Groove, I think a lot of us are interested, but as Dave said, Ontario is huge. I live downtown Toronto with no car, so Iām fairly limited in the amount of traveling that I can manage. It would make more sense to have a Toronto Cell and an Ottawa Cell and perhaps they can join up every 6 months or so.
Good to know there are t-men in Toronto. Before I go there next summer, Iāll be sure to check in with you guys with respect to a decent place to work out for a week or so.
Last summer I was in a real pinch and ended up working out at some corporate-type gym at Yonge and Eglington. I think it was called Eclipse or something like that. It was horrible. I walked in and the first thing I saw was some man wearing a black tank top, leotards and womens running shoes using the cardio equipment. āWelcome to Toronto,ā I said to myself.
Iām an Ottawa wannabe T-Man. Nobody here has ever heard of t-mag either. I feel like Iām preaching religion every time I tell people about it. āI know this great site, youāve gotta check it out!ā And they stare at me.
Hey Porkchop, Iām familiar with Eclipse and I canāt imagine how you actually managed to get a decent workout at that place. I donāt know if youāre into bodybuilding or powerlifting/weightlifting or athletics, but there are good gyms here in Toronto for any of those disciplines. I personally train for sport-specific strength and power and I train at the Toronto Track and Field Centre at York University. If youāre not a member it only costs $5 to use all the facilities for the day, and on top of all that you get to watch coaches and athletes like Charlie Francis and Ben Johnson work out. Just a couple days ago I had the pleasure of watching Marion Jones and Tim Montgomery working with Charlie Francis. Awesome!-Theyāve been training there for the past few months and have been trying to keep it a secret(I suppose because of Charlieās past)but word got out and you can read about it in the last issue of Sports Illustrated. The USTFA had no comments to make on this situation. I wouldnāt be surprised to see the both of them shatter their previous records this coming season.
Alex, I was in a pinch. Trust me, it wonāt happen again. Especially since I discovered these forums last summer. I was just relaying the experience because it seems funny to me, now when I look back at it. I appreciate your recommendations!
I agree with having an Ottawa and a Toronto Cell and getting together once or twice per year. I would be willing to help with the development of the Ottawa T-Cell. We could get this all started up and meet up with Chris S. at the SWIS conference this year (sept. 26-28 2003). What do you all think? How about it Chris?
Grooveless:hey, itās great to see your enthusiasm about starting a t-cell up in Ontario. I want to encourage you to keep plugging away. I grew up in Toronto, and have been down in Atlanta now a few months, and perhaps I can share some advice with you, since weāve just started a T-cell here. It doesnāt matter if you have 4 or 40 people in the cell. What matters is that somebody takes the initiative to do it. Thatās what I did. I wanted to hook up with other t-folks and train, learn, and be inspired by themā¦so I did it. somebody has to make the first moveā¦and it sounds like you are (have done) that. DON"T get discouraged by the fact that there doesnāt seem to be a lot of interest. Hey, all you need are two people and you already have a group! And then you build on thatā¦sounds pollyana perhapsā¦but thatās how it started hereā¦and weāre still very newā¦we only had our first meeting last weekā¦and after only one week, weāve got our own Yahoo Groups, and more momentumā¦so you can do itā¦Iād be happy to help you out with any support or advice. We need t-cells all over the place, big and small. Let me know what I can do to help. Good luck. Ottawa is a great cityā¦clean, attractive, great parks, great farmerās marketā¦I could see living in Ottawa one day.
I agree with having a toronto cell, toronto seems central for alot of us. i am in hamilton and i am sure those of us in and around the GTA could make it, (go buses, subways etcā¦)
Thanks for the support Lorne. If I think of any questions or anything relevant to ask you Iāll post on this thread or just tarta new one, again thank for the support.
Ontario here! I guess we could swing Torontoā¦ack choke ugh! Sorry I think I made it clear(in another thread) that driving in Toronto is likeā¦being constipated. I made the last SWIS and meeting up this year would be cool. Ciao.
hopefull the like gets put up. We can use this as a place to start planning and getting a list of contacts together! I do not have the time to plan it all but thought the yahoo group would help! we can get a better page when we get organized
Hey Everyone,
iām trying to re-resurrect the idea of getting the Ontario T-cell together. grooveless, magnus, capp, etc. have expressed interest. i didnāt realize that this thread already existed. if you are still interested, please pm me or respond to the recent thread in the off topics section regarding a t-cell. i will ask the admin if they could keep the post near the top so that forum members who do not frequent that section will see it.
thanks and cheers
