<Seriously. There are much better places to live in this world. Places with less murder, rape and poverty. Places where the poor can get health care when they need it. Places where people can get a university education based on their merit, not on their willingness to go into debt. Hell, even Ireland can afford to give free University. Why can’t the states?>
We accept immigrants more freely than most places that provide “free” health care and university. Those places that are great to live with all the “freebies” are tough places to get to live because they can’t afford to give those things to everyone. In Germany there are third generation Turks born on German soil from parents born on German soil that are still considered “guest workers” instead of citizens with full benefits. You don’t see that here. People might not be givin so many things but they are all given the same chance to succeed based on what they can do on their own. People that are willing to incur debt are probably a bit more dedicated than those are only willing to take a free ride, just a guess.
<Then you people wonder why all these “damn immigrants” come in and steal all the high-paying jobs. I mean, really. You don’t educate people, there’s a shortage and you have to import.>
I don’t wonder about those “damn immigrants”. I don’t bitch about them either. I’m a decendant of immigrants just like most of us are. My ancestors came over when there were no “social projects” and they found jobs, built homes, and made a life. They helped build this country instead of hoping to have a tit to suck on.
Now your corporations are buying out the corporate heart of my country, closing down factories and head offices to move them to Mexico and the states, respectively. Buying up our forests, our oil, our water, which are the property of the people of Canada under the Constitution, and then selling our own resources back to us at a profit.>
Here, take a tissue, you need it. To buy something there is a seller and the exchange is voluntary. Raise your prices, refuse to sell, get some back bone and quit whining. Would you pay more money for something if someone else was willing to sell it for less? Maybe the ideas behind successful business aren't taught in your schools but they are here. Maybe those "free" univeristies are shortchanging you. We have a free trade agreement. Despite that we can't buy your lumber at it's fair market value because we still have duties in place that protect our lumber industry. That's costing jobs in Canada. If you can't sell your product, even at a low price, you won't have an industry any more. I don't like all this international BS any more than you do. I could buy a new Ford Superduty truck made in the truck plant in Kentucky for 1/3 less money in Canada than I can at home, but there are laws preventing me from doing so. Look at the prescription drug things going on now. Our pharmaceutical companies sell the very same drugs to Canadian pharmacies at a substantial discount (you couldn't afford the drugs otherwise) but if we try to buy them from your pharmacies (perfectly legal)the drug companies threaten to quit selling the drugs to Canada.
It's been engineered by both our countries' rich elite so that we will soon have to accept the FTAA and the US Dollar (as profits moving south permanently prevent our dollar from ever becoming strong again). Now your military is demanding that we let US troops operate on Canadian soil. That the FBI be allowed to operate here. There is talk about "economic integration" which is nothing other than the complete and total loss of our national sovereignty by the national treatment clause of NAFTA (and soon FTAA), thus having your "way of life" forced upon us. Forcing our government to accept rich-loving economic policies. The gap between the rich and the poor has only widened since the free trade agreements were signed. The rich got richer and the middle class and below got poorer.
You won’t find it any different anywhere else. There are rich and poor in most countries. Even in the old USSR there were rich people. I met a kid whose parents owned a huge casino on the Black Sea that catered to rich party members. How could that happen in the land of Lenin and Marx? Because there are always alpha wolves in any pack. No matter how you structure a society some will do better at gathering resources and some won’t.
