LOL! Wtf Iron…we have to stop doing this hahahah

In Norse tradition, they would put their dead leaders in a burning ship and send it out to sea.
Now THAT’S going out in a blaze of glory!

so, yea…will change mine to

“and they killed motherfuckin giants! You can’t get any more badass than that!!”

there would also be 1 or 2 fair maidens sent to burn with the dead body, so the Viking would have a wench in Valhalla.

It was considered a great honor to be chosen to burn with the boat.

Aye…and I bet they could really hold their breath lol! ^^

Fuck yeah, love Norse history and mithology!
BTW, the common idea that they were crazy blood-thirsty fuckers MIGHT come from the berserkers, which were a kind of “monk-warriors” wearing wolf pelts and howling like mad-man when going to battle.

My love for you is like a truck…

Vikings deadlifted in the snow.

Vikings would get the best looking dames from their conquered foes.

Used to train the peregrine Falcon for hunting.

Brought their young boys to raids.

epic

Actually everyone here and the OP itself is perpetuating one of the worst myths.

Viking is really an action not a people. To go viking is really to go on a (raiding) voyage. A Viking would mean a person who goes on a raiding voyage.

The people we are talking about are more correctly Danes or Norseman and would only be said to be viking or have gone viking when they were off raiding.

Oh, and cool fact, they were the first to land a settlement on North America.

So, what you’re saying really is that any one of us could actually be real vikings if we wanted to? =D

And the Saxon Series by Bernard Cornwell is amazing for people who like viking stories. Its the story of how the Danes almost conquered England and how England itself unified and because a country.

Kind of yeah. I have some Norse ancestory too. It’s how I got interested in all the old mythology. There is some really cool stuff out there. Fairy tales and Gods and runes. Norse fairy tales are some of the best.

Ditto. Well, being Scottish it’s a given I’ll likely have Scand blood in me but I’ve always loved Norse myth as well, and Greek of course. So much so that I did a brief stint as a fortune teller when I was at college to make some extra bucks and learned how to read runes instead of using traditional tarot. What a blast that was. ^^

Even got a runic tattoo when I was 21…sado that I was lol.
