Nice benchin’. When I’m spotting someone I always say I’m not touching the bar unless it stalls and stops moving upward. That way they know if it was “all them” and they can concentrate on the lift without distraction. They always thank me.
I give spotters the same instruction…don’t touch it unless completely stops moving.

lol…that’s true, but the paperwork and politics were a killer. Not to mention, the pay wasn’t spectacular. I hope they pay you better up there.
It took me an hour to do all the paperwork on an arrest. And I was one of the fast ones.

x2 With the one exception that, unless stated beforehand, don’t touch it unless they see any downward movement. Sometimes it will stick for a sec or two, but I can still push through it.

Exactly. Right now I have a good group on Mondays for heavy bench, we all understand not to grab the bar until it is headed down. When I am not with them and bench I always have to explain to the spotter exactly how to hand off, and when to grab the bar.
I actually explained that to my ‘spotter’ (I usually do the pre-lift shpeel, too). I think he was just anxious (kind of a lil’ guy). I told him if I needed him to spot he would only need his fingers ![]()

What do you guys think of these power racks?
http://maine.craigslist.org/spo/1256968537.html
http://maine.craigslist.org/spo/1259165595.html
Both are for sale for about $250. The first one is literally 3 minutes from my house. The second, a bit further but close (about 45 min).
Which is the better rack? I thought about buying one and donating it to ‘The Y’…

I’d get the 2nd(powertec) one. Looks sturdier.

I think the powertec rack is a much better quality rack. The club Weider rack reviewed here:
didn’t get a good review and one person stated that it is on rated to 300#s.
And according to Amazons product description the Powertec rack is rated to 1000#s.
My first bench/pulldown/squat rack was a present when I was 12. It was a Weider one. By the time I turned 13 I realized it was crap. I would go with the powertec.
Go for the 2ncd one…looks more rugged.
but if its economy- then take what you can spend.
on a side note…
Your from jersey and living in Maine- sup with the blueberries-
I eat them by the gallon-
which are better Jersey or wild ones in maine?
kmc
Thanks for the rack responses. I was leaning towards the 2nd one, just have to get it here somehow if I buy it. I’ll keep y’all informed ![]()

Ahhhh, the age old question, which causes a lot of arguments. ![]()
They’re actually two different types of blueberries-- Highbush and lowbush. Highbush are bigger and sweeter, lowbush are much smaller and tarter (‘TAH-tah’ in Mainese)
Personally, I like to eat Jersey blueberries (ie “Highbush”) when I’m just picking at them. If I’m baking or cooking with them, I prefer the Maine (ie “Lowbush”) blueberries. I will say that there is nothing like going on a long hike in the foothills and picking the wild blueberries up here for food on the trail (as long as you’re not fighting over them with a bear).
Ironically, I just bought a container of cherry tomatoes (Santa Sweets) that came from New Jersey, from a farm a couple of miles from the lettuce farm my family owned way back in the day. I come from a long line of lettuce farmers, stone workers, and meat cutters ![]()
I knew I could get a foodie question out of you…
thanks!!
I like them both- the NJ large and the wilder smaller ones near you currently.
we have a weekend house in NEPA north east PA- and the wild berries there are tart small and excellent for baking the 5 week days in Manhattan the NJ berries are every where - and cheap.
we have a bush or two in our yard/filed and they are perfect wild.
Yeah the getting home part is always a pain in the ass.
take a rachet set and take it apart.

The powertech power rack is the one my gym at work just bought. The rack itself is awesome, but the chin up handles (for widegrip) are too close together for me. Same with the detachable dip bars.
It is very sturdy though, and I like how may holes there are (about 2 inces apart) as opposed to the one in my gym near my house, where the holes are about 4 inches apart.
Inside the rack itself, it is a bit narrower (ie- squatting etc.) than the one at the gym closer to my house… but I am also a neandrathral… yet I still have enough room to move around.
NIce log SD. You have some impressive lifts. I should start mine [again] on here and keep myself motivated.
Thanks for stopping by sir_tris!
Sat: Shoulders
Some shitty db presses
some shitty db lat raises
some shitty db front raises
some shitty db rear delt flyes
Not a great workout, but something. I had to go first thing AM because we took the kids to a water park. I had no food, no energy. I don’t like to do anything early AM except cardio. My lifts always suck in the early AM.
Ate like shit at waterpark. Had fun on the roller coaster, though ![]()
Sun: Off
Continued shitty eating.
Mon: AM Treamill - 30min @ 3.5mph. Hip mobility, stretching.
Later today: Deadlifts.
Right now: Oatmeal and protein.
