Great work, that’s a big milestone.
Nice! Congratulations on your PR! On to the Squat!
That was fast. Like 3 rep speed fast. You have a 330 in you now.
Good lifting dude.
SteelyD, it’s been a great year. You’ve made a lot of progress and it has been great watching.
Hope you and the family have a great Christmas.
Hey, thanks everyone! Means a lot to me.
I’m humbled by you guys who make lifts bigger than that look easy. I’m still catching up to you’se guyz.

I would suggest throwing a couple 25s on the bar for a super-cool looking 455. Great work! [/quote]
Thanks, man! I think I’ll do just that! Besides, I’m an old school Pontiac guy, so I loves them 455’s!!
Tonight (12/23/2009): SQUAT!!
Squat: 135x8, 225x1, 315x1, 405x1, … 455x1!!! Big PR! See vid below…
Leg Press: something x 12 x 3
Calf Raises in LP: 5pps x 10, 6p x 10, 6p x 8 (all very slow con/ecc)
Leg Ext (1 leg): w/u x 20, 100x20, 130x15, 150x12
I think I got depth. It felt like I bounced off the floor. The older guy in the background thought my ass hit the floor, and someone else off to the side said it looked good. I had to watch it a few times though-- the stripes on my shorts throw me off (I’m buying new squat shorts for vid days…).
I think I get below parallel watching my hip, and the top of my left leg-- but, I see what I want to see ![]()
Thoughts on form/depth? Looks like I hit a wall about 6" out of the hole for a little bit, then spring up. Need suggestions on how to work that height bracket.
In any case, good enough for the end of the year goal (it’s gonna have to be…). What a load off my mind.
I swear, this squat is all I’ve been thinking about for a week… Now, OFF TO EAT, EAT, EAT!!! lol.
Hey SteelyD, how do you like those FatGripz?
Congratz!! Awesome squat, SteelyD! You’re progress has been great!
You’re operating at a whole new level SteelyD.
Thanks guys. I think it’s all the disco and 70’s soft-rock they play at Gilly’s Gym. And here I thought the inner rage was released via Heavy Metal…
spyoptic: Love 'em. Now, having said that, I use them less now that I joined the 2nd gym because they have a bona-fide ‘fat bar’. That sucker is THICK and weighs like 80 lbs or something.
500 will be going up in no time. I bet Santa needs to bring you new clothes because you’re getting so huge.

When 500 goes UP, XXL will be goin’ DOWN, and XXL will be comin’ ON!! lol… Nah, just gettin’ fat. I’m going to have to <GASP!> diet in the coming months I think. We’ll see. I’m just trying to lift more and do more so I don’t have to eat less and hopefully the muscle will catch up to the fat…
On another note, I feel like a train hit me this morning! LMAO! Besides the 1 squat, I did a low volume, relatively light weight leg workout, but WOW, did that squat KICK.MY.ASS!! LOL.
You’ve had a great year lifting and I hope you have a great Christmas. Leave some food for the rest of the family.
Merry Christmas, Steely!
Hope you have a great Christmas man, Christmas diiner is the ultimate recovery tool so eat up.
So does the D in SteelyD stand for “Damned Big Man?”
Wow, 455, that was great! Its hard to tell from video, but it looked like legit depth to me. Great work.
Thanks again! Hope everyone had an awesome Christmas and/or Hannukka and/or !
I enjoyed Chinese food, a bucket of homemade Pizzelles (thanks Mom!), mini-cannolis (set out for Santa), homemade New England Mincemeat Pie, random chocolates, and some ‘regular’ food, too!
The only exercise I got yesterday was “Wii Sports” that Santa brought for the kids… yeah, for the kids… Wii Boxing is surprisingly aerobic, and there’s nothing like getting virtually KO’d all day by a 7 year old girl…
Today, back to the grind and hopefully annhiallate my shoulders at Gillys a little later.
Need to clean up the diet a bit and think about goals for '10…
Shoulders today.
YTWL, Scap crap, etc.
HS Shoulder Press: 6 sets, worked up to 3 plates per side x 5, x4
Seated H.I. BB Press: 5 sets, worked up to 85kg* x 6, x5, x4
DB Lat Raise: Worked up to 4 sets, worked up to 55x8 + 25x12
Now that I type this it doesn’t look like that much, but it sure felt like it. Still stiff.
- “The Pit” at Gilly’s has all plates in KG, so the ‘45s’ aren’t 45, they’re 20kg. Ditto down the line: 10kg, 5kg, 2.5kg. There’s a chart on the wall that has the conversion. The bar is standard 45 lb.
I did the seated mil presses (ie hi inclines, maybe 15 deg off vertical) in the rack starting just below neck. I kept hitting/scraping my nose and one time just about broke it. Feels like I got punched, looks like I scrubbed it with sandpaper… doh!
Sun 12/27: Back
Rack Pulls (Mid Shin): 135x10, 225x10, 315x8, 407x3
DB Rows: 80x10, 105x10, 130x10, 150x12
-Rope St.Arm Pulldowns: something x 15, x12, x10, x9
-C.G. Lat Pull down: something x 12, x10, x6, x5
- *Seated Calf Raise (slow up, hold, slow down, hold): 2p+50 x 10, 3p+50 x 6, 3p+75 x 7, x5
- Cable low row: something x 12, x10, x10, 230x12
Sorinex Universal Shrugs (neut. grip): 2pps x12, 3pps x10, 3pps + 50 x10
- I put a 25# between each plate so it’s easier to pull them off…
Not the heaviest day, but good volume.
