On My Way to 2000lbs

Deloading this week. I’ve been training, but it’s been very boring so I haven’t been updating the log.

Sunday – DE Bench
185 +40lbs chains 8x3

Band Pushdowns 3x20
EZ Bar Curls 3x10
EZ Bar Skullcrushers 3x12
Hammercurls 3x10

Tuesday – Speed Squats / Pulls

(I pulled first on this day, just because another group was pulling and I wanted to work in with them)

Speed Pulls
135 x3
add doubled mini
225 x3
275 x3
315 x1
315 x2
315 x3
315 x3

There was no good reason to do sets of 1, 2 and 3 here I just did it. Whatever.

Speed Squats w/ Buffalo Bar (parallel box)
150 x5
240 x3
240 x3
290 x3
290 x3
330 x2
330 x2

These moved great.

Hyperextensions
2x25

Glute Ham Raise
2x12

Leg Extensions
2x20

All of the accessory work was done very light, just to get some blood flowing.

Thursday – 8/16 Deload Bench

Decided to work off a 2 board today to make it easier on our shoulders. Basically, we would just work up to our last warmup and cut it there.

Bench
bar x10
135 x10
185 x5
225 x5
add 2 board
275 x5
295 x5
315 x2

The bar moved very well, I’m feeling strong after this

Rope Pushdowns 3x12
Hammercurls 3x10
Overhead Band Extensions 2x20
Lat Pulldowns 3x12
Rear Delt Flyes 2x12

Once again – all accessory work was very very light just to get a lot of blood in the muscles.

Tomorrow I’ll work up to about 65-70% of my opener in just briefs – probably 460-490 or so and cut it out. Then a bunch of ab and lower back work.

Friday I worked up to 475 in some loose training briefs for 2 sets of 1 and cut it there. I also chased down a troubled youth who stole a t-shirt from a store (true story).

I noticed today that there are at least 2 training logs of guys trying to get 2000 raw. That’s just bananas, I feel like a complete nancy boy now.

I think there are actually 3 people who are gunning for 2000 lbs. A little competition never hurt anybody!

98lbs x12
150 x12
150 x12
175 x12
175 x12

Overhead Band Extensions
3x20

Band Curls
3x15

Rope Curls

Lots of blood moving today, nothing really heavy. I’m ready & anxious for Saturday

You’re really killing it man. Srs.

Thanks dawg.

Today I did lower back and ab work, nothing that I’ll bore anyone with the details with.

Here is a video with me in it … I think the sets are 640 x2 (straps down), 690x1 straps down, 750 x1 straps up and 850 x1 straps up.

Haha i watched that video earlier and was like hey thats Frank!

Yes sir, I hope you enjoyed my rendition of “For Those About To Rock” by AC/DC. Sometimes I like to pretend like the gym is a karaoke bar on Friday nights.

I got word today that the meet is going to be live streamed. So in case you want to watch fat people grunt and squat high you can do so via the following url:

http://www.ustream.tv/channel/detroitbarbell

I’ve tried my damndest to stay loose and stretched out, but honestly I’m just getting irritable and want to get on the platform.

Sweet, Ill definitely tune in if Im around the computer!

8-25 – Detroit Barbell APF Open

Squat
730 x0 – Missed my opener. This sucked, I got on the platform and lost all my composure and fell down like a sack of potatoes. I came up with the weight but the spotter on one side grabbed the bar because he thought I was dumping it. Tough call but probably the right one and I can’t complain because it looked awful.
730 x1 – easy and fast. +15lb PR
770 x1 – an absolute dog fight but 3 white lights +55lb PR. Apparently I was called up several times and just kept going deeper.

After the squats I was optimistic about the day. I still had a shot a 2000lbs and 1890 is pretty much in the bag at this point.

Bench
475 x 0.5 – I crushed the bench, but left my thumb loops on. I was told the lift was no good because of this. It was later decided that the lift was good and that I got away with a warning. + 45lb PR
500 x0 – mis-grooved and sucked. TAAAAAAAAKE IT.
500 x1 – looking at the video it was much harder than it felt, but it came up. +70lb PR

I spent about 20 minutes stretching and foam rolling before the deadlifts. It was hot in the warm up room and I couldn’t seem to drink enough water & gatorade. Despite this, in the warm up room my pulls just seemed to be popping off the ground. I worked up to 500 and stopped here.

Deadlift
620 x1 – fastest 600+ pull I’ve ever done. This qualifies me for XPC semi finals.
700 x0 – got folded in half

I decide here that I’d rather take a stab at 2000lbs than leave with anything less. After all, I already qualified for the semi finals and have a PR total. So despite missing my 2nd, I go up to 730 on my third.

730 x0 – got it to my knees, got folded in half and my hand exploded simultaneously.

I went 5 for 9, totaling 1890 and winning best AAPF Equipped Full Power Lifter. This is a 105lb meet PR. I’m happy with the meet over all but I did leave a lot out there on this day. I made a lot of silly mistakes, mainly that I was just overly jacked up.

I did get a chance to meet T-Nation’s Chad Dresden who is a real man, unlike me. Great meet over all, if you’re ever around there for one of their meets it would behoove you to stop by.

Props Frank! Sorry to hear that you didn’t hit your 2000 lb total, but I think what you walked away with instead is just as good, if not better, and will set you up so you can smash 2000!

I’m a little bummed but I’m really proud to say I took a shot at it. I had that total at my knees. Too bad I was bent in half and I couldn’t hang on. I know that with a little more experience I’ll have it.

And here is the 730lb dead lift that turned my hand into a shredded piece of flesh.

Great job man, 2000 is coming soon. Talk about a badass squat pic and who says multiply doesn’t hit depth?! Way to fight on the pull, look forward to the videos if there are any…

Thanks guy! I have videos on my computer but I haven’t put them together yet. I’ll post it here when I do.

Here’s the meet video. I didn’t get a shot of my opener bench, and I left out the 700 missed pull.

It was nice meeting you brother. Good job…you will go well over 2000 at the next one!

Thanks guy. You guys put on one hell of a show. It was great talking with you, I’m just hoping I can keep up with your raw numbers.

Tuesday 8/28 – Back to the Grind

Usually I’m completely dead after a meet but I feel fine, just really tight. I’m probably tight because I went on a 2 day bender starting about 30 minutes after my last deadlift.

Seated Rounded Back Good Mornings
135 x15
135 x15
135 x15

Just wanted to work my upper back a little more since I think it will help to prevent me from folding in half.

[b]Belt Squats[b]
1.5 pps x12
2.5 pps x10
2.5 pps x10
2.5 pps x10

Dumbbell Stiff Legs

65 x15
65 x15

Decline Abs
bw x20
10lb on forehead x10

Did some other ab work that’s not even worth talking about.

First off, wowwwwww, you are strong as fuck! Good job at the meet. I was curious, during your last squat attempt it looked like the guy behind you was pushing or holding your chest up. Obviously the lift counted but I was just curious what that was.
