132 page guideline on what has to be on a food label. I think 132 pages pretty much covers it.
you act as though every one has your aptitude , they don’t .

Some people have no concept of what is a good diet , how to count calories or how to balance a diet .

You read it here people maintained a good weight eating shit and they think every one can .

Exercise is important but most figures I hear (and agree with) say it is %70 diet
So let’s just solve the entire problem and have the government give each citizen an approved diet.
Unless it comes rationed out in an amazon box delivered straight to our doors, that won’t work either.
No no, much better than that. We’ll just get rid of markets in general and hove State run food stores. You’ll hand the stockperson (who makes $15 an hour) your “APPROVED CITIZEN FOODS LIST” for the month (get’s mailed to you on the 1st of every month) and that stockperson will put your weekly rations in your basket. You then take the basket up to the front counter and the Clearperson stamps your card, no need for cash as the government can just take that out of your pay in “FOOD TAXES”.

Then you can wait in line next Sunday morning and do the same thing.

Problem solved. No more evil Oreo Corporations.
Easier solution. Force companies to tell the truth of their food manipulation and then let the consumer decide.
They are forced to on the food labels that are on the package.
Please show me where on the food labels the companies show the manipulation of food ingredients.

So which government entity do you believe is going to give unbiased information to the public regarding the quality and safety of manufactured food products?

That is your defense? To make fun because you have no real defense as to why the public doesn’t have a right to know what the food purveyors are doing to their food they offer to sell them.

Interpretation is your defense to these studies? That’s all you got?

Apparently it is on the level of rocket science to understand if a food has a half life of 200 years it just might not be all that good for you. It really is pretty simple; if 90% or more of your food was once alive, it is highly unlikely any health issues will be food related(disregarding the rare food allergy). If the American public is too dumb to understand this without government intervention they deserve whatever maladies come their way. We all know how healthy the government approved food pyramid is.
Here is the thing, the government has already intervened, and has already made this information very simple to digest.

Just look at this label for Cocoa Pebbles:

Serving size_Check
Calories_Check
Fat_Check
Carbs_Check
Cholesterol_Check
Sodium_Check
Protein_Check
Ingredients_Check
Vitamins/minerals_Check
Government recommended amount you should eat daily_Check
*What the % is based on_Check

What else is there to add? A step by step process on how everything was mixed together? What kind of vats, pots, and pan were used during the process?

I’m mean it’s pretty ridiculous to claim the information isn’t out there for everyone to see.

The issue is and will always be over consumption and that goes for everything. If you over consume TV shows you’re probably gonna be a fat ass. Do we need a warning label on TV packages or before every TV show? No, that would be ludicrous.
Hmmm… please point out where companies tell you of the manipulation of those ingredients. All I see is a listing which has nothing to do with the studies.

I’m not sure why I’m bothering to do this but I’m going to try one more time to “talk you down” so to speak.

But that’s not what you’re advocating is it? The articles you posted constitute “informing the public.” By contrast, government mandated regulation of food/food packaging and the associated bureaucracy, red tape and regulations constitutes statism.

As I’ve already stated classical liberals / free market capitalists believe that it is. We believe that voluntary transactions where men are free to purchase or not purchase, invest or not invest - are fundamental to free societies and individual liberty. Whether or not you believe this is one thing; not knowing that others do is another and speaks volumes of your ignorance.

As I have already stated it’s a question of interpretation and semantics. For example, one can say one is “jetting” one’s carburettor to make one’s car go faster. And it would be equally correct to say one is “manipulating” one’s engine to make one’s car more dangerous. They are both correct however the second phrase contains a value judgement whereas the first is neutral. Do you understand? Okay, let’s get to the crux of the issue:

Please answer - not ignore, avoid or obfuscate - these simple questions:

1). What changes to food processing do you advocate the government should implement?

2). What changes to food labelling do you advocate the government should mandate?

3). Please give an example of a warning you believe should be on Oreos cookies for example.

4). What do you believe the cost would be of the government mandating these regulations, compliance checking, prosecuting and the associated red tape and bureaucracy together with the cost to manufacturers / distributors and consumers?

5). Do you believe that the government bureaucracy created would over time increase in size and produce evermore regulations and red tape?

6). Do you believe that the United States federal government is too large and has accrued too much debt?

This entire thread would be funny if it wasn’t so utterly tragic. The United States is neck deep in debt and being swamped by regulations, bureaucracy and red tape from an ever increasing federal government - meanwhile you’re spewing infantile Marxist propaganda and demanding the government regulate what food you can eat and what should be written on its packaging. If you wish to commit suicide that’s your business, but why take the whole country down with you? As I said, this is my last attempt at “talking you down.” There’s only so much I can take. My head is already swimming from the bombardment of lunacy.

EDIT: one more question:

7). Would you say that sports car manufacturers “manipulate” fuel / oil ratios to create a stoichiometric ratio of optimal danger in order to make sports car enthusiasts addicted to the thrill of driving fast?

Nice avoidance of the heart of the matter. While scientists have done study after study showing the deleterious effects of this manipulation you have to use the word “interpretation” to keep your ideology alive.

Please answer - not ignore, avoid or obfuscate - these simple questions:

1). What changes to food processing do you advocate the government should implement?

I’m not sure exactly what should be done but the public ought to be informed of what is going on with the food they are buying and ingesting. This is too much statism for you. Giant corporations ought to be able to take advantage of the consumer in order to fatten their bottom line.
2). What changes to food labelling do you advocate the government should mandate?

The public ought to be told of what is going on.

3). Please give an example of a warning you believe should be on Oreos cookies for example.

Manipulation of food ingredients can cause addiction as shown by numerous scientific studies. This product has been altered to spur on such addictions.

Or we can leave it to the professionals.

4). What do you believe the cost would be of the government mandating these regulations, compliance checking, prosecuting and the associated red tape and bureaucracy together with the cost to manufacturers / distributors and consumers?
Better question, what is the cost of not doing anything?
5). Do you believe that the government bureaucracy created would over time increase in size and produce evermore regulations and red tape?

Do you believe corporations ought to police themselves?

6). Do you believe that the United States federal government is too large and has accrued too much debt?

Debt is low because interest rates are low. Saying the country ought to run it’s finances the way a family does is a fallacy of composition.

This entire thread would be funny if it wasn’t so utterly tragic. Yes I believe the public ought to know what it is putting in their mouth. Wow how Marxist! Making people informed and then letting them decide. How you interpret that as the government telling people what to do is borderline retarded.
EDIT: one more question:

7). Would you say that sports car manufacturers “manipulate” fuel / oil ratios to create a stoichiometric ratio of optimal danger in order to make sports car enthusiasts addicted to the thrill of driving fast?
If it has been shown to be addicting via studies, then yes. However, this is much different than what the food purveyors do and it’s effects. How many poor people drive sports cars? Compare this to how many people eat food that have had their ingredients manipulated so that the reward center of the brain is activated.

So you ignored my questions. Okay, I’m signing off now. Over and out.

“I’m not sure” and “a better question would be…” are not answers. Additionally, sports cars may be expensive but fast cars are not necessarily. And thrill seeking behaviour and placing oneself in dangerous and life threatening situations could certainly be described as addictive. I’m speaking from experience, having been in numerous high speed car and motorcycle accidents and having seriously injured and nearly killed myself numerous times.

It’s not the people’s fault. It’s big bad evil corporate greed that make a person eat 15 oreo’s and a large pizza while watching a marathon session of Keeping Up with the Kardashians.

The studies and science is there. Resort to name calling and fun making because you have no refutation.

It’s odd that a bunch of people who pretend to care about freedom are against telling the public the truth behind food purveyors techniques of subterfuge in order to fatten the bottom line at the expense of the public’s health. But this calls into question economic ideology which is obviously more important to protect.
