Olive Oil

I take Olive oil and just pour some in my shake twice a day. Does it matter what kind of Olive oil it is?

I kind of get the feeling this is way too much oil just to be drinking, especially since I also take fish oil. Is this intake fine?

I pour about 2 - 3 table spoons in each shake.

A tablespoon is about 100 calories. So 400 to 600 calories a day from olive oil is fine. Maybe not all at one sitting unless the shake is just protein and oil. But that just sounds disgusting.

cool. Thanks

  1. Depends on your budget, get cold pressed if budget allows, cold pressed and organic if your finances permit. Extra virgin = better anti oxidant properties, but not sure if there is a common standard for this in the US.

  2. How does it fit in with your diet budget. Do you count calories/nutrients? If not then a hard question to answer. You pour “some” into your shake.

Vague questions = vague answers.

Just curious, can I cook with EVOO or will that mess up all its beneficial properties?

Never cook with EVOO. It has a very low smoking point.

Go with macadamia nut oil for monosaturates with a high smoking point.

Right, macadamia nut oil is a MUFA and lower than Olive oil (also a mufa) in PUFAs. You might also want to try coconut oil, a saturaed fat.
